Comment:
This man does not try to shut up the class if they're talking, and continues lecturing in a quiet voice while people yell and talk the entire time. Highly recommend NOT taking this prof if you learn via lecture. That being said, the tests are straightforward and simple if you understand the homework. Pop quiz when homework is due every 1.5 weeks.

Spends most of the lecture in proving those given theorems and definitions rather than explaining the examples; Pop quizzes are given; Homework problems are not easy so you really need to spend much more time to teach yourself outside of the class.

Chou is an all-around poor professor. Dry lectures, messes up half his proofs, and it's impossible to tell half the time when he's finished with a problem. He laughs at people when they come up to him with grading issues and once slammed the door behind me after I left his office. Gives twice as many quizzes as are on the syllabus. Just avoid him.

Absolutely horrible. Horrible explanations, wears a mic yet is barely audible, posts 2-3 answers as 'homework key', and basically takes advantage of how little you learn from his lectures through numerous pop quizzes and scheduled tests. You will be teaching yourself everything.

The course is hard but the professor tries to makes things simple. Lots of material in the course and the lecture notes are available online. He goes really fast in lecture and may not be very clear at times. The material during the end is pretty tough and he isn't very clear with them so get your grades up in the relatively easy first 2 midterms.

Would not recommend this professor, he mumbles the entire lecture and frequently messes up during proofs and has to restart/redo them. The only positive was that tests were largely based off homework problems or examples he does in class so they weren't too bad.

This Professor is one that lets the book do the teaching. Spend alot of time in the Math Help Center cause thats how you will learn. He gives textbook problems for HW which is great cause I hate online homework. Quizzes in Recitation and in Class after each HW is handed in. Never fails to bring a smile though and is really nice. Fair Tests + Class.

Not a bad professor, at least for this class. I can imagine him not being so good for something more difficult, but linear algebra is pretty straightforward. He's a likeable guy and has a great laugh. Very approachable. Also, after just a couple days you can completely understand his English - don't be intimidated by his name!

He's okay, I guess. Not an awesome lecturer, but he gets the point across. He's a bit quiet, so get there early to sit in the front of the room. His grader does most of the work, but he gives points back on tests. Average is curved to about a C, which is not so awesome.

Approachable, helpful, and knowledgeable. Fair grader and sensible HW/quiz/exam structure. His English is perfectly fine, but he pulls a low Clarity score for one major problem: his lectures are drier than the textbook. If you're a self-learner, you shouldn't have any trouble. If you need an engaging lecturer, avoid.

Pretty easy class. Not a bad teacher, but took too much time teaching the easy stuff in the beginning and had to cram in the hard stuff at the end. Homework isn't mandatory but is helpful. Easy quizzes almost every week. 4 fairly difficult exams, no final.

Exams are extremely similar to the homework assigned, but there's a lot of material on them so you have to work very fast to do well. The class isn't too difficult though. Pretty average professor, sometimes put me to sleep but he's okay overall.

Lectures puts you to sleep since he's not very comprehensible. Tests are really similar to hw problems so overall it wasn't that hard of a class but you actually have to do some of the hw.

hw not graded,so i bought an older version of textbook for 5 bucks comparing to more than 100 bucks for the latest version and i didn't do hw at all, didn't really need to read the book if u pay attention in class. recitation is the duplicated version of lecture and helpless. Easy A class that costs u little in terms of money and time

Class was very fast paced, fastest 50 minute class ever. She was direct and to point. Hw was helpful, not graded. All quiz/exam questions from the homework--recommend doing them. Quizzes/exams very straightfoward, pretty short and easy if you do homework and attend recitation. Rewards attendance. Pretty simple class if you put a little effort in.

Do NOT pick him as your professor, he moves very fast through the material and has quizzes every week in recitation AND lecture and lecture is EXTREMELY boring to sit through.

I have taken the class three different times and he was the best teacher out of all.of them. The class.is still challenging but on fairness he is your best bet to take the class.with. He is friendly and Is willing to help if you need any unlike most math professors at UB. Gives a formula sheet for exams which is huge because no other teacher does.
