Chip is the best professor I've ever had! He's very creative and kind. Definitely recommend taking a class with him. However, I should say it didn't really help me with the basics of Architecture. but it was one of my favorite classes at Cal.

Comment:

Chip is the best professor I had at Berkeley. The beauty in how he teaches is that instead of trying to produce copies of himself (bad in a design profession), he shows you what he loves and is inspired by and then gives you the tools to figure out what you really love. Overall he opened so many doors for me and I'd call him a friend a mentor. :)

this guy needs to check up on the field of Landscape architecture right now, because his curriculum is so old-school it is damaging the department. he is very smart, but chooses to be a funny nice guy instead. If you want to be obsolete with a Beaux Arts education--take Chip's studio, otherwise avoid.

excellent professor. he walks around studio and sits down right in the middle of students' tables and starts talking. he is very knowledgable about his field (landscape architecture... architecture in general) and is easy to approach. i asked him to take a look at my portfolio outside of class and he was very encouraging.

I had his class a few years ago and it still stood out in my mind. Chip's definitely one of the greatest prof's at UCB: very smart, entertaining and has an interesting approach to landscape structures (check out his books!). Take his class. He'll change the way you see landscape architecture!
