I'm surprised there are ANY negative comments. Herr Stehr is a great prof. Bright, engaging and worldly. Really cares about the students. I previously took French in H.S. Now I'm going to get a minor in German.

This class is useless. You might get a good grade in Herr Stehr's classes if you play along with the Guten Tag games, but you won't learn any German, and your skills will be useless if you plan on ever going abroad. The students who enjoy his classes must learn best by being bullied- because that is what he does.

He just doesn't understand how to teach a language. I know many people in 2nd or 3rd year that are incapable of having a conversation in German. In class you obsess over tiny details but you never learn to think for yourself. I lost a lot of my speaking ability. If you jump through his hoops you will get a good grade, you just might not learn much.

A good class overall. You get basic grammar and vocabulary. The computer program is really glitchy which is annoying. Skipping class will have a toll on your grade. In the later classes it is hard to catch up if you get behind.

Herr Stehr is a great professor! The course is built to be taken for all four years, so the first two years you learn sentence structure but not a lot of vocab. But the class is really fun and Herr Stehr and the rest of the instructors are very patient and caring. My favorite courses at OSU have all been German. Go to Kassel!

He's pretty intense but I've never had a professor so willing to give me one on one help with the curriculum. If you're taking anything from the German year 1 or 2 sequence, you'd should be ready for a little more intensity than in other language courses.

Wonderful professor! Very clear in his explanations. The class is taught using his own specially designed method (which makes the book expensive, but worth it). Class drills really pound the grammar into your head. Class is a performance, so be prepared! You are always on the spot. He never lets anyone make a mistake which is great for learning.

Learned a lot about German grammar and 'jargon'. Not so much emphasis in conversation or speech. He tells you exactly what will be on the tests. An easy class if you do your homework and attend class. Although, many times he sends an assistant to teach instead of him. Also a little shady about selling his Kassel study abroad program.

THE most helpful professor ever! I spent a term struggling in his class cause I wasn't ready for 212, he took me aside and said that he would help me for the rest of the term, and then took me around the entire campus talking to the dean of liberal arts, and others to make sure my grade could be changed to a B. He went out of his way for me.

An extremely easy class, despite of his backwards teaching methods. He's really nice and the days that we sang in class were awesome. Extremely generous with retakes/grading so don't worry even if you have a few bad tests.

We spent all of 300-level German watching and writing essays on Schauplatz Deutschland videos. Then when I had him again at the 500 level, we wrote on the same videos! Plus, he hardly ever came to class, sending his wife in his stead. When I confronted him about this, he screamed at me for 35 minutes. Beware!

Herr stehr is wonderful. The class is easy but you learn anyway, and it's well organized. Plus, it's always fun to check out all the different ties he wears everyday. Oh, but he likes to humiliate people, so keep up or he'll call on you in class and make you look dumb. He's also a total businessman and I think he's probly richer than god.

Stehr will teach you grammar out of the book that he has published. That is it. The class consists of exercises out of this book and memorization of dialogues. Stehr will NOT speak to you in German (even at the 300 or 400 level). The classes are easy in that all you have to do is memorize a dialogue before class, and write it down word for word on the test. But that's not really actually learning anything. Take a class with King. She will actually make you work, and you will improve.
