Best class I took at Wesleyan. She's a great lecturer, and she grades her own papers- kind of cool for someone so important. She also just thinks in a very directed way- you'll learn very thoughtful critique if you take her class.

This intro to AmSt was great; I wish I took it freshman yr instead of soph bc it provides a great foundation for the field. Potter is a HARD grader obsessed with progress grading--so, if you listen to her comments and focus on writing essays HER way, you can do well. She can be frustrating, but is a totally absorbing prof.

I took several history and WS classes with Prof. Potter. I found her to be intelligent, entertaining, and challenging. I worked harder in her classes than in any of my others and I enjoyed pushing myself that hard b/c of the issues I was tackling and the knowledge I gained. I only had 1 bad class (50 min. out of 5 semester long classes with her)

Professor Potter is a very tough grader, expect to be worked very hard in her classes. She will teach you volumes on whatever topic you're studying, and will push you to excell. She is unbelievably helpful if you have any questions or problems. BEST Professor at Wesleyan, by far.

Comment:

colonialism and consequences is a hard class, but b/c amst doesnt really have any solid interdisciplinary methodology, this course provides a good foundation for the work to be done junior/senior year. Potter is brilliant, concise, and objective as any historian without ignoring marginality.

fascinating, but way too liberal (and i'm super liberal) to the extent that all she was teaching in our big survey course was her own opinions, ideological perspectives, etc. and ugh, what's up with reading "boots of leather, slippers of gold"&
