Horrible Teacher, never stays on topic. French culture should be about the people not his opinions. In no way did this class teach me anything useful, he just wates a lot of paper by giving you the same maps 10 times. In no way should you take his class unless it be absolute necessity

Doctor Sample is THE linguistics professor to have. Do you want to learn about the study of language take this course. It is not an easy course. You will learn a lot. Many articles are handed out in class. Read them! His study guides for the quizzes are very helpful. You have to take good notes. So, study hard, listen well and A is the end result.

Requires one lengthy term paper, one response paper and a couple tests. Pretty easy material. Sample is completely into teaching and expects you to be equally interested and class participation Hands out manyyy articles which you MUST read and ask questions about because he WILL test you on them as well as text readings. easy going and friendly

A demanding but fair professor. Exams are INTENSE. Read, pay attention in class and study, and everything will be great. Sample in entertaining in class and obviously knows his subject inside and out. Overall a good choice in taking his class.

This course was nothing like I had expected. The professor spent too much time talking about his favorite topics and hence we never got to some of the more important areas in linguistics. His tests were horrible. His manner was intimidating and demeaning.
