Absolutely the best professor I've ever had in college. Very relaxed, extremely interesting and fun. I wish I could have a class with him every quarter. The reading may be a bit much, but as long as you participate in class discussions you'll do fine. I got a B+, I would definitely take any class of his!!!

As my first upper division, the Psychological Anthro class was challenging, but definitely worth it. Linger is a professor who loves what he teaches, which makes the lectures all the more enjoyable. At times it can get confusing and unorganized, but Linger is willing to help. Assignments: two papers and a final.

The experience I've had in college. Clear and engaging lectures, beautiful and relevant Brazilian music and films, interesting readings, 2 very reasonable paper assignments and a fair reading quiz.

Daniel Linger is a fabulous professor and I recommend taking him even if you aren't an Anthropology major. His lectures and engaging and clearly discuss theories that make you think in a completely different way. If you try to engage in the essays, you will do well. Think of this class as a mix between philosophy, anthropology, and psychology.

By far the best lecturer I've had at UCSC. You could see his true interest and love for what he taught and that inspired his students to succeed. His method of teaching the class is great and the Brazilian songs are fantastic. You have to work for your grade but at the end, its worth it! :)

One of the best professors I have had during my four years at UCSC. His classes are hard but fair and if you put the work into them, you should do just fine. If you are an anthropology major (especially cultural)and don't mind being challenged, you would be well served to take one of his classes.

He is really smart and facilitates conversation well. I'm pretty sure he has done work mostly in psycological anthro, so he emphasizes the importance of individuals.

This course is very challenging and theoretical, but Dan does a great job explaining some obscure concepts. Difficult class but a great teacher. For a W class, it had a fairly easy amount of writing and papers were graded fairly.
