Loved this prof! He can be a bit on the dull side, but his tests, papers, and quizzes are easy and clear-cut. Dr. Brisben is a great guy who is willing to invest in students. Strongly suggest scheduling a meeting with him after class to discuss any questions or concerns you have- he wants you to succeed!

WOW, what a sucky professor. He is like a broken record that keeps going, disregarding the interest or lack there of of his students. He loves to hear his own voice. One of the most frustrating things about his classes is that when you raise your hand and actually ask a challenging question, he gets frustrated, brushes you off and keeps talking.

Dr. Brisben is a really neat guy. His lectures are interesting and he's really funny. He's famous for having a soft voice that will lull you to sleep, and he makes repeated hand gestures (like a conductor). Show up to class and do the homework and you'll be fine. His testsquizzes are a little on the hard side, so be sure to study.

Awesome Professor, Very clear and very easy to understand. Great guy, very funny. just read his lecture notes every day and you will pass easily. He makes it very easy to understand.

Dr. Brisben helped me look at the old testament as the Hebrews did, which is something unlike anything I'd ever had. He repeats his points a lot, but I remember them much better than I have in any other class. If you want to talk about a complex question, it takes him awhile to understand what you mean, so do it after class.

Brisben is a pretty good professor. He tends to ramble a bit but what he has to say is always interesting. His tests (at least in OT) are HARD but as long as you show up regularly to class and take his daily quizes, you should be fine.

What a useless addition to JBU. Couldn't answer questions effectively, and basically told students what to think. Didn't allow much discussion in class. Easy professor, but sometimes doesn't think before saying things to students which may be taken as offensive. Don't think it's intentional, but his teaching style makes students not care. AT all.

Brisben is a funny man. He is very sarcastic so you have to have the right sense of humor or else you will find him rude. He gives you study guides and review sessions where he goes over everything. The tests are harder but if you go to the review session and study you'll be fine.

He's a really sweet guy and honestly cares about his students, but he is not the best teacher. I didn't learn a whole lot and he couldn't answer most of my questions. Oh, and one of the things I really didn't like was having to use the Message in class. I hate the Message.

I agree... the only thing that was interesting was his hand motions and watching him rock back and forth... it is ridiculous. No one I know did well in his class... even if it is necessary, don't take his class - graduate late!

I knew his review sheet for final front and back, and I made a 50 something. So don't rely on just those for tests. At the end of the semester go to his office and look over your old tests, he'll give you some points back if you explain why you put what you did. He was very helpful with that.

Don't take him if you don't already have a good background in Bible history. He expects you to have come in with sequences and relationships already under your belt. His class is interesting, though don't expect an A.
