Comment:

Go to class to get participation and attendance marks, but information in lectures is pointless for the papers. Can basically tune out the lecture and do homework for other classes. No final - 3 papers. Three hour class goes right until the end. Usually lecture for the first part and a documentary for the next half. Write to please his interests.

Interesting lectures, very passionate about what he teachers. Emails out lecture notes early in the day of class, and puts them online. 15% of your mark is attendance and participation, so you need to be in class, but there are no tests, only papers, but he marks very fairly and gives great feedback while also being extremely lenient on due dates

Super easy course but a lot of writing. Show up to class because attendance is marked but don't need to take notes. Very interesting material. Lots of writing involved in this course but sooo easy, don't need to find outside sources just the class material. All notes are provided for you.

Very few assignments but are very easy. Class is mandatory as attendance and participation takes up a HUGE portion of your grade. Very interesting discussions. Taking more of his classes because i loved this class that much. Used textbook for the first couple weeks then never again. Don't bother buying it and just follow the notes.

Comment:

I took his modern media, war and propaganda night class and it was brutal to sit through at times through his film and clip showings and lecture material. He's obviously super passionate about what he's teaching which is nice and he loves to award partial marks on tests, so they were easy. I would take this if you're looking for a good GPA booster

Awesome prof! Super knowledgeable and loves the material he teaches. As a student with no prior history/politics/new media experience (hard science major), I both enjoyed as well as learned a ton in this class! Exams are straightforward.. and he loves part marks!! Nice, friendly, and easy to approach. Take David's classes!

Comment:

Course "Media, War, and Propaganda" is fantastic. Frequent use of video, and articles are highly relevant. This course is essential for any critical thinker who wants to deepen their knowledge of the use of propaganda (yes, by the West) in war. Critical studies on political and media power structures. Surveys of the major 20th C. wars. Recommended.

He is very intelligent and well informed on the class topics. I feel bad for him because our class wasn't very talkative and it was basically a discussions class. There is a shload of readings but they are interesting. He is very lenient on deadlines, not bad on marking.

Comment:

Advertising & Consumer Society. If you have to take a fine arts elective (yuck!), this is a great one to take. It is like a weekly three-hour discussion of corporate conspiracy. Dave is passionate about the topics, well-informed, and a friendly guy. His deadlines are very fair, as is his marking. I would love to take other courses from Dave.
