Comment:
Dr. Hales in his ability to tech difficult subjects will never cease to amaze me. Even on day when I don't want to go to class, he makes the experience fun and worth my time. people will complain about how "hard" his exams are, but they clearly do not do the book problems. His tests are so simple compared the book and how hard he COULD make it...

HALES IS BY FAR THE ONLY PERSON I WANT TEACHING ME CHEMISTRY. this man is both understanding of the hard material and diligent in teaching style ensuring that you will get the best experience possible at Hendrix. DO NOT listen to other people in these comments degrading him. if you study, you do well. thats how it works. welcome to the real world.

I love Dr. Hales! Had him for gen chem sequence and loved him. His class is tough and you go a bit more in depth than the other classes, but if you study well youll be fine. Every test had bonus questions. Hes basically a grandpa; you can tell he loves the material and knows it well. His classes are lecture style and theres lots of quizzes.

Dr. Hales expects a lot from his Gen Chem classes, considering he usually teaches upper level classes. Though at the end of the semester he helped out a lot in ensuring you got the best possible grade.

Comment:
Dr. Hales can be a bit of an adjustment at first because he's not the most organized or on-top-of-it, but he definitely knows his stuff. His lectures can be a bit hard to follow but if you let him know you are confused he will back up and help. Definitely do the recommended homework but he grades very reasonably and gives partial credit.

Comment:
I passed GenChem1 (w/ dif. prof.) easily, which makes me feel like Dr. Hales is the reason Im having such a hard time with GenChem2. His lectures are very unclear and fast paced. I have to read the book before class to feel like I have an idea of what is going on. The questions on his exams are unrecognizable. The exam avgs are usually D's.

Comment:
His lectures are very confusing and all over the place. He teaches as if he assumes you already know all the material. His tests are impossible because less than half of the test material is actually covered in class. He is BY FAR the most difficult out of all the current gen chem professors, and I highly suggest avoiding his class if possible.

Comment:
Dr. Hales, while at first seems like a nice person and professor, is probably the worst faculty member at Hendrix College. His teaching style is abominable, his tests are unreflective of actual knowledge of physical chemistry, and his care for other students is nonexistent. I strongly recommend keeping your distance from this man.

Dr.Hales is awesome for Journeys! He is so cute and nerdy! He is a little bit tough on grading essays, but class is actually fun with him. Also, I didn't have him for chem. but he would help me with it even though I only had him for journeys. He was great about this. So nice!

i had him for p chem 1 and 2. in chem 310, it's a smaller class (6) so you feel more comfortable asking questions and work with each other a lot more. chem 320 is a bigger class (17). if you pay attention in class, take good notes, do the homework problems, and ask him questions whenever you have them, then you should be fine.

Oh my God, this class is so hard!!!! Be very very afraid! Nerdy and cute at the same time; laughs at himself all the time; not the best, but far from the worst teacher.
