i was looking forward to taking this class bc of the description but it wasn't that at all. we spent almost little to no time talking about the topics that are listed in the description. exams are open note but very long:5 open-ended questions, 1 essay in 50 mins. he always curves the exam bc he knows he grades tough. didn't feell like philosophy

Very good professor, really has a passion for what he teaches and makes sure you learn the material. Attendance to discussion was only mandatory and you wont really need the book. The essays you have to write are basically summaries of readings and you'll probably score lower for injecting any opinion into them

Good professor overall, really intelligent guy. Makes the difficult subject easier with recordings and one on one sessions before each paper you write. Pretty interesting class, go to lecture and go over old study guides for final that he posts. 3 papers, TA grades em, so the grade received is based on how nit picky the TA is.

I think he's an amazing professor, with an impressive resume and a real drive to make students understand philosophy I think that it's all about how interested you are in the class and how much effort you put in. The papers are not easy, but he gives you enough time. I am already looking for another class with him. DO go to class!

Terrible professor. Either doesn't reply to emails or takes forever to reply. Not dedicated at all. Disorganized. Failed to record lectures when he said he would. Probably learned more about him and his life than the course material. Stay away.

great teacher but he tends to stutter, however the way he lectures is kinda interesting. lectures are always posted on blackboard so lecture isn't mandatory for attendance. exams are pretty fair - open note and open book: easier to have book notes whether then looking through book during exam. overall great class and prof.

Hilbert is a fun teacher, humorous and sincerely interested in his subject and teaching and sharing it with his students. I took metaphysics with him. Problem for me was that the content of the course was pretty much crap. Generally worthless gibberish propagated by contemporaries and likely his teachers as well. -- Sincere teacher, bad content. --

Teacher was nice and interesting. I showed up the whole time barely took notes, was almost impossible b/c his thoughts were all over the place! The 3 papers were hell except the first one that was fairly easy. The final exam was not as bad as I thought, he gives u a study guide with questions. Answer those questions before the final!! I got a B

i enjoyed prof hilbert as a teacher. he posts all the notes online but i found philosophy to be confusing so it's still helpful to go to lectures but more so to the discussions. i thought the paper topics were really difficult but he let us use our notes on both the midterm and final!
