He's okay. He explains well and makes good demos. Some of his questions are confusing and the written-answer questions can be lengthy. My biggest complain about this course is the GAs (not surprisingly, they don't know how to mark). They casually deducted marks for no reason and without mentioning why, and Higgs is not very open to re-marking.

Out of my 4 years at the University of Windsor, taking 5 classes each semester with different profs, Higgs was my favorite prof and his classes were my fav. There aren't enough characters left in this box to describe how awesome he is. It's not even only about how well he teaches, but he genuinely cares about his students if you put in the effort.

Comment:

Higgs is an absolutely incredible professor. I had him for Behavioural Neurobiology (55-458) and it was definitely one of the best Biology courses at the University. There isn't a textbook, but most of his slides only have the main idea listed, so make sure you go to class to get the rest of the information. His tests are also very reasonable.

IF YOU SKIP LECTURE, YOU WILL NOT DO WELL AT ALL. The class is fairly easy if you attend EVERY lecture. There is NO textbook for the class, everything he tests you on is from lecture. His power points are about 5-15 slides at most and majority are just pictures SO GO TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES. Things he says are what he tests on.

you will NOT pass if you don't go to all the lectures even if you are attending all the labs, he doesn't post any study resources outside of what he shows in the lecture. The labs were TERRIBLE there is no textbook .AVOID this class....

really nice and easy to talk to. I didn't find the material that interesting, and he made it unnecessarily harder than it needs to be by making you memorize 50 fish by appearance and being able to give common, and scientific name. Also assigning papers. If you are willing to work hard and spend a lot of time, you will get an A, but he makes u work.

Makes you appreciate science! Classes are usually at 8:30 but, there's no way you could fall asleep in class because he and the material are just so interesting! Breaks mid class to show apps of material. Test material is tricky but fair and ONLY comes from lectures. Content is somewhat multidisciplinary so everyone's interests are addressed!

He is a fantastic teacher, my absolute favourite. He is really there for you and cares about your grade. His tests are fair as long as you study the material from lectures closely. Labs are fun too!

Amazing professor, intelligent and very clear. I only had to go to class to completely understand complex topics that he was able to simplify for his students. It is very obvious that he cares that his students know the material rather than how well they are tested. Recommend ANY class taught by Dr. Higgs.

Dr. Higgs made Fish Biology awesome. He kept things simple and he would go over complex mechanisms thoroughly. His personality is quirky and kind and he really cares about everyone as an individual. His one field lab where he fished with us was amazing. I had fun listening in his lectures. He is the best professor I have had so far.

Biology of fishes was really cool! Dr Higgs is very very good at teaching and his tests were very fair if you went to class and paid attention. On the downside, the labs were not that great because the TA's were extremely unprofessional and rude. If you asked a question they seemed annoyed that they had to move off of their seats to come help you.

The best professor I've ever had! His lectures so completely nesscary and never get the textbook. He goes at a good pace and repeats things so copy everything down and you will do great only lectures are important. First class i actually learned something from lectures.

Just as everyone says! Tests right out of lecture making the textbook almost useless, but the material is from the text if you want to skip. I don't recommend it though. He keeps you interested. Wants to help, and is open to suggestions. I wish he taught all my classes!
