I enjoyed going to this class every Tuesday and Thursday. He lectured for the full 2 hours every time, but I found them enjoyable. If you don't like taking notes or listening to lectures, Dr. Sansom is not the professor for you. We had 4 grades: 2 tests, 1 research paper, and 1 cumulative final. Don't ignore the extra credit opportunity ;)

While he is one of the most brilliant people I have ever met, his class it one that I dread going to. He is extremely hard to follow and gets off topic really easily. He lectures for the whole two hours and it is hard to bear. He is a great person, but if you are just looking for a humanities credit, for the love don't take this one.

Dr. Sansom is a great teacher and person. I really liked being in his class even though it was challenging. He is so knowledgable and respectable as a professor and person. Take the time to get to know him, it will be worth it. But also be prepared to work for your grade and be challenged along the way

Comment:
Dr. Sansom only gives 3 tests (including the final) and 1 research paper that is worth 1 test. These are your only grades. He grades on a floating curve and you do not know your overall grade in the class until after the final. I would not take him again because of this grading issue, and also because we have only tests for grades.

Dr. Sansom was an excellent professor. Although I was not a philosophy major, I took a couple of his philosophical courses. He is a great man and is willing to help you out in any way possible. He does have quite a few required texts, but they are not textbooks. If interested in philosophy, take his courses.

Very kind and caring professor. Very lecture heavy and most lectures can be boring. He chases rabbits all of the time. Holds you until the class is over to the very second each class meeting. Very few grades so be sure to understand what is going on in class. He is always willing to help you out.

Dr. Sansom is probably the smartest prof at Samford. That can be a bad thing sometimes in his lectures though, because he's so smart that what he says goes over your head. If you don't understand, ask him after class and he's really helpful. His tests are kind of hard, but not too bad. The biggest thing is to make sure that you UNDERSTAND.

He is a person I genuinely respect and actually even like. I took this class as my humanities requirement and am honestly sad I don't get to take anymore of his classes. Because of this class I am thinking of minoring in philosophy now, so if you have any interest in philosophy take this class! He is a great teacher that explains complex ideas well

His lectures can be a bit challenging in some areas but he is willing to explain them to you. If you need help ask,he will meet with you outside of class and break it down for you. Overall he is very understanding with his students and will help you. Take his tests serious considering they may be your only grades for the class.

This man is a godsend. As wise as Aristotle and as kind as Pope Francis, he really illustrates the subject matter through language. His Christian Ethics course was life-changing. I hope to take him again for one of the other classes he teaches. The most difficult part for me was the research paper but even that wasn't too difficult. 15/10.

Overall great professor! His lectures take the entire 2 hours and they are very dense. He packs a lot into each class and stretches each idea out for a long time. He can get off topic easily, but if you pay attention, take notes on the important stuff, and go to the test reviews, you'll do just fine in this class.

Comment:
Dr. Sansom is an intelligent and kind person. The topics he discusses are interesting. However, they are not always presented in the most exciting manner. He lectures for the entire 2 hour class without much stopping, and tends to get off topic pretty easily. The tests are fairly easy if you take notes on the main points he discusses.

My favorite teacher. You have to work for a good grade, but it's possible! I made an A just by taking good notes, doing (most of) the reading, and studying about a week in advance before tests. If you ever have questions you can email him and he always responds, which I found very helpful. He also has a review session the morning before all tests.

Comment:
An tacit requirement for all of Sansom's classes is that you must do the readings for the class. NOT because he will call on you for class, but that he will hardly do it at all and he will just lecture on everything that is relevant to him at the time. He is very knowledgeable, if not focused. So asking good questions can really up the class value.

I thought this class was extraordinary in so many ways. I have never thought of the questions Sansom had posed during class and I have been so interested the entire time. The books he uses are used in order and make a very good combination because they all in some way have to deal with the other. Definitely take this class

Absolutely brilliant professor; needs to publish his thoughts more, and probably needs an editor for that, but I have a Ph.D. now and he is one of those directly responsible.

He really made the class interesting. Reading assignments were short and he explained so much that I didn't always have to read. No papers, multiple choice and short answer tests. Highly recommend. He tends to get off topic easily, but he really pushes the main things you need to know.

Great lecturer who inspires his stdents to think about what is actually important to us. His tests can be difficult, but if you attend his study sessions prior to test your grade WILL go up because, quite frankly, they are very helpful. I think my grade would have been better if I went to all of them.
