Work hard and youll do fine. The paper is pain and points were taken off for minor things. Pay attention to the paper guidelines. The test were ok. You could either take him or skip him and youll life will be more or less the same. But if he clears his throat one more time Im going to lose it.

He is a great lecturer ,besides clearing his throat every 30 seconds :(, but his grading and tests are ridiculous. Tests are rough but doable. The papers are what kill people. I went in and had them read over my paper beforehand and I got a D and C on the paper. I got A's on the tests which was well above class average and still got a B-.

Toughest grader ever.... Seriously if you like a high GPA I would take this as a last resort. Not easy at ALL. Class average is a C. I'm just saying if you can take another professor do it. You have to put a lot of time into this class to get a good grade, and probably see him during office hours.

Tests are pretty intense, a lot of memorization of the Supreme Court cases. Grading is hard. He picks on people in class so bring your book everyday. Only good thing is that he does not take attendance and participation does not matter. However, you are responsible for what he lectures. Btw... He does clear his throat ever few sentences.

Professor Abbott was great. Good sense of humor, and very helpful during office hours. He does not hand out A's, so be prepared to work for a good grade.

Excellent professor. He explains literature while weaving in history to give it more depth. Encourages classroom participation. Returns work in a timely fashion. It helps that he has a well-developed sense of humor too. Thanks, Prof. Abbott!

Great class, but does take some effort to get a decent grade in the class. Be prepared to have a thorough understanding of every case before you take the exams. Grading on the essays was a little tough, but he just always expects his students to be prepared. Always bring the book to class, or be prepared to be called on.

I'm not sure what the other raters are talking about. His class, tests, and papers were straight forward, it is not hard to get an A in the course. Tons of Supreme Court cases and information to retain, but the class was very fun to take. He is sarcastic and funny and makes the material easy to understand. Tests are not that hard, paper could be

I don't recommend taking this class unless you are able to attend every office hours - I attended multiple to receive high grades on the papers and it never really paid off. Each test is multiple choice and are hard - you must memorize quotes from opinions of supreme court cases.

Hardest professor I've had in the English department. The test are all multiple choice, which is very different for English. The term paper was worth and lot and he grades rather hard. Don't take this class unless you have a lot of time to put into it!

I definitely recommend this class! I was a bit reluctant to take a class on Renaissance lit, but Abbott made the class enjoyable. The multiple choice tests are do-able, but there are always those couple of questions that are kind of nit-picky. The paper was worth 35%, so do a thorough job on it, and you're golden! Good class, Abbott's great :)

I had him for 115 and am taking him again for 107. Something about that guy's voice is very soothing, hard to stay awake lol. I feel bad because when I CAN stay awake lectures are interesting. Either come to class or read the books, and you'll do fine. I didn't read anything for the 107 midterm, just reviewed notes and got an A. Great prof!

he reminds me of my dad. he has a really nerdy and sardonic sense of humor, but it does keep things interesting which is good because the material is dull as can be. he is also mean to people who are late or make idiotic comments, which I appreciate. overall, the class was ok. not the greatest thing I've experienced, but definitely not the worst

I love Professor Abbott, I thought he was an amazing teacher. I have taken every class he has taught here at Davis. I really enjoy that his paper topics are open-ended because it allows some creativity to take place. I also thought if you at least attend classes you should do well over average on the exams. His questions are obvious and he is a ver
