Steve is a lot of fun. If you are looking for a rigid syllabus following type instructor, look elsewhere. Steve is a bit of a flake but in the best way possible. If you like photography as art, he will help you take your work to the next level. If you like photojournalism, this is not your class. Take photo journalism at Annenberg.

He is awesome, really passionate about photography and knows a lot. It is a lot of work, and is quite pricey. However it is a very rewarding experience he is just a really fun person to be around, and cares about his students a ton.

This man seriously saved my life. He is one of the most amusing people I've ever met, and while slightly vague and off-topic at times, he is willing and able to help those who need it. Expect to spend inordinate amounts of time in the darkroom and inordinate amounts of money on paper and film. Regardless, this was the best class of my life.

The one plus I can give is this: he makes you print the full negative (no cropping/zooming) so it really makes you think about it before you take the pic. Other than that, useless as a teacher, and loves having his lackeys/grad students suck up to him. If you're looking for a stereotypical black turtleneck clad NY art snob, here he is.

He knows a lot about photography. if you have a question about something he usually knows the answer, however he is extremely vague when giving assignments and changes things (cancels class and changes locations) way too often. also make sure you have A LOT of money before taking his classes. he doesnt seem to understand the phrase "I'm poor"

Steve is by far one of the best professors ive had. Hes very passionate about his work, and quite amusing. Ive taken two courses with him, and am registered for a third. Be prepared to shoot a lot of film, spend time in the darkroom and attend all classes. Focuses on technique, content, and some history. He's really awesome guy.

Steve is an awesome teacher if you know what you are doing. If you have problems ask him after class not during. Dont take him if you have never taken photo before. As long as he sees that you put forth the effort he is ok with you. But he getsupset if photos are late for crits. but over all he has some good stories and is basically a good person

Both his classes were quite possible the biggest waste of time in my whole college career. He follows no lesson plan and teaches no technique what so ever. There is never anything taught in any class he just sits around for 6 hours a week and tells you storiesform his life that are not photo related

Photography: Great professor if you're willing to fill in some tech gaps yourself -- he spends more time worrying about what you shoot than how; you are expected to get how your camera works on your own after he explains in class once.
