Comment:

Steeples isn't a terrible professor, but he isn't great. He knows his stuff, but he fails to communicate that information in an engaging way. If you read the entire textbook and review the tests and PowerPoints, you'll do fine. ALWAYS review the tests, as at least half of the test questions are taken from prior tests.

Comment:

Avoid Don. The first two tests are common sense and pretty easy. The last two and the final, all hell breaks loose. Hardly any of the material is discussed in class or has shown up on previous exams. He doesn't try to teach you, just trip you up. Don't try discussing the obscurity of the information of his exams. He'll put the blame on you.

I went to every class, read every chapter, and took notes on everything and still did horrible in this class. It was a major GPA bomber. Prof. Steeples is the worst lecturer, and if you try to communicate with him via email, be prepared for unhelpfulness and rudeness. This was supposed to be an easy class but you will not get the A promised to you

I went into the class thinking it would be interesting and fun since it is a natural disasters class, but the class itself is a disaster. His lectures are very boring and the tests are very difficult. I was very disappointed in the class. You also do not need to get the book, all the lectures are posted online.

His lectures are extremely boring, but all of the power point slides are posted on Blackboard. The tests are slightly difficult. He tells you to study old exams, but he also adds new questions that trip up students.

The class is hard. The test's are easy. He is a good guy, its a boring class but he is funny and makes it better. He gives you old tests to study and a study packet. All of the questions on his tests come from the packets. He also drops the lowest test. If you need a science class and hate science this is your class.

Teacher has found a way to make the ideas and science behind earthquakes and natural disasters boring. I applaud him for that, but maybe it's time to think about retiring....

Everyone else has pretty much hit the nail on the head. This guy is super boring and his class sets you up for failure on the exams. The class average on the first test was 62%. Avoid this instructor like the plague...can't speak for the other instructors of this class though.

Boring as it gets. There is no hm. Only 4 tests and a final. I didn't buy the book, I just studied the pp and the old tests he posts online and I got a B-. However, that's a low grade for me. Very low. My lowest in college, actually. That was a result of only doing poorly on the final. Study hard for tests, don't slip up, and you'll be fine.

DO NOT BOTHER WITH BOOK. I read the book and made a study guide for the first exam: 62%. For the last exam I studied ONLY previous exams (posted on BlackBoard): 95%. *Watch out for "current events" too. He throws recent disasters on the end of exams

He posts tests from previous years on Blackboard: study those and those alone and the class is an easy B, maybe an A if you read the book. Going to class isn't necessary, he just reads the slides anyway.

Do not take this class with Professor Steeples. His lectures are very hard to follow and the information provided in lecture is not relevant to the tests. His reasoning behind grades is utterly rediculous! This class with any other prof. is considered an easy A and that was what I was expecting. Needless to say I was very dissapointed!!!

I dont suggest you take this class with him. The Lectures are boring, the notes are useless, and he makes no sense at all -- literally. As for the tests, good luck. He often has questions that arent on either previous tests or notes or in the random anecdotes he rambles about in class. AVOID THE STEEPLES

This guy sucked, his classes were long and boring his tests hard, and his reasoning for grades just wasn't there. I compared this to what my brother had when he took the same test, this guy has definatly slipped a lot, stay clear.

All you need to do is study as many previous tests as you can and study them well - he puts them all online. Class is easy if you study the previous tests well for each test. BORING lecture. The only good thing about going is hearing possible questions that might not be on previous tests. Nice guy who means well, but his lectures are just not fun.

Your whole grade is the tests. You dont have to go to class besides for the tests. Read the previous exams off blackboard and and study the CONCEPTS dont just memorize the answers, he likes to flip flop words to trick you. He isn't willing to do you any favors, so dont ask. This was probably one of the most boring classes i've ever taken.

A good class for freshman..he is crystal clear about his expectations from the class. Despite the fact that is a huge lecture if you are a good student who has a problem he is very good about helping you out. The lectures can get a little boring but they are worth attending because he will tell you EXACTLY what will be on the test!

Class has four exams + the final. He drops the lowest test grade (final not included). Your three exams account for 66% of your grade whereas the final counts for the remaining 34%. The teacher is boring, but the class is easy. There is NO reason to get any lower than a B in this class.
