In the Asian traditions class and must say I love Shirley. He has so much passion for what he does and knows what he is talking about. Throws jokes into the lecture and does not mind having class discussions in the middle of lecture. Plus there are only five assignments-all are essays- and they are always given at least a weeks notice. Love it.

Dr. Shirley's Asian Traditions Class is an absolute delight to attend. His lectures are informative, while at the same time hilarious and entertaining. He perfectly articulates very complex ideas and makes them easy to comprehend. He is probably one of my favorite teachers of all time.

Okay, I know everyone likes this guy, but I think that he seems to have stopped caring about his teaching. He is unwilling to adapt his teaching style for new students, and thus if you aren't on his wave, you get left. You can get through the class regardless, but I recommend taking another prof. if you can.

Shirley is an extremely entertaining teacher, but he knows way to much for his own good. He goes off on many tangents so its hard to know what to write down. Attend every class, you will miss way to much. Take really good notes, he helps alot if you just ask him.

Most people like this guy because he's so easy. Granted, he is conducive to real learning outside of class and is great to talk with; however, in class, he's frustrating. The only way you learn in his class is to do it all yourself and meet outside of class. He's a back burner professor that gets distracted by shiney things. Great person. Bad prof.

I had Shirley for two classes my freshmen year and let me tell ya, he made it very enjoyable. He has been there a very but he knows his stuff. He often times sings before classes and tells interesting stories about his life. He makes religion interesting! I highly recommend him because you will learn something!

Shirley's a great teacher - he demands you to think critically. again, not a blow off class. he digs in deeper than the surface on things. if you go in for help, get ready to get more than you asked for - in a good way. he'll talk your head off and have you thinking about what he said for days!

I just wanted to post in response to the person before me. I think that he is one of the MOST open minded people i have ever met, and that comment about having to be Catholic, are you kidding? Amazing professor!!! He may seem crazy but that only makes his class and his stories more interesting. He's very insightful and funny, one of the best class experiences I've had at St. Eds.
