Professor Ellen Straw was one of the best professors I have ever had at Mt. Sac. She really wants you to pass her class and gives you many extra credit opportunities. Lecture can be boring but it is based on what she is expecting from your papers. If you email her she is very understanding and will accept some late assignments. I loved her!

Really amazing, fun, cool professor. She is very nice and is very clear on what she wants. Easy class if you put in the effort like any other class. Was a pleasure to have her. Tests are based on movies or short stories. :) Love her so much!

Comment:

She's a nice person and tries to help you out and is open to what you have to say. Not intimidating at all. The class gets boring a sometimes. She has the test essays based on movies we watched. I suggest to keep an eye on your grade because I got an A for every essay and ended up with a B. Offers extra credit and is VERY lenient on work. Good

I took professor Straw's English 1A class and was so happy with my experience. The class was full of a diverse group of people and it was a great environment to meet new people and learn with. Professor Straw is clear with what she expects on assignments, shows up on time, and is a wonderful person. Show up do the work and you will pass her class.

SUPER EASY TEACHER. If you're good at writing this class requires 0 effort. Tests and final are based off movies and in class essays are based off short stories/articles. Lectures are useless bc no one listens. She's very nice and brings candy/cookies for her students. Very clear for her grading so follow that and you'll be more than fine.

If you are already a good writer, this class will be a breeze as long as you show up. Her grading style becomes very clear after you receive your first draft back. She is lenient with students as long as you communicate with her. She lectures straight out of the book which isn't the best, but its bearable. Also offers a lot of extra credit.

Not organized at all, Reads mostly from book, doesnt give clear writing assignments, not clear on essay prompets at all In class exams but does let you have notes Lots if peer editing abd her grading your essays She doesnt care if you are on your phone really Just do the work and you will pass and doesnt use Canvas instead uses learnbost Dont take

I havent been in school for over 8 years and Prof. Straw was my first class coming back. She was very straight forward and easy to understand. She moves a little quick although I did take her in winter. Overall just do the work and you will pass easily. She also offers a very generous amount of extra credit.

Her class was crazy easy. Cheap textbooks and her grading wasn't all that hard to me. All her essays were take home (min. 3 pgs; research min. 5 pgs) and her midterms are several topics to your choosing. Three movies and choose one to write an essay on.
