His voice is so dull you can hardly pay attention, he drones on for three hours without caring if students are paying attention or retaining any information. His material is very boring, he does not try to make class interesting and is a very hard grader. After his babbling he doesn't even bother to give a study guide in order for students to study

Tbh he's not a terrible guy, but he really shouldn't be teaching -- some people are just not meant to teach. Literally everyone is waiting for him to retire. If you can, try not to take Concepts with him, you move at such a slow pace and you never learn Avid properly because he lectures about it instead of you learning it by trying yourself

Seems like Hoffman studied to be a teacher, because he doesn't seem to have much field experience when it comes to film. Even other film professors say he's not the best. He's all book-knowledge, so read that textbook cover to cover and you'll be okay. Nice guy, little boring, but you do watch a lot of movie snippets in class!

Concepts - Very soft spoken and quite a bore. Even so, if you are a film major, work hard anyway. You may learn something and will at least get some experience and know the equip/your peers. Teaches Avid which actually puts you ahead of other classes since final cut is losing its importance in the industry.

Hoffman is a great guy and a great professor. he's a little soft-spoken, but he makes up for it by being very experienced and easy to understand. Many students don't like him because some professors don't like him, and there really isn't any reason why, so these students really aren't expressing their own opinions.Good Professor, you'll learn a lot

I love when ppl give teachers bad ratings because they fail. Idk why anyone would say he is mean, a jerk or rude. I found him intelligent, kind &always willing to help. His tests are not easy, but if you STUDY & READ you'll do fine. Granted, he doesn't have the most invigorating speaking style, he's a quiet sort of person-just make sure you focus.

Stuck up, incompetent professor. Believes he is correct in all things and won't listen to reason. Textbook is from 1992 and totally out of date for the topic. Has love affair with Sidney Lumet. Whole department hates him, and he also never responds to emails. Waste of a class.

This was the worst class ever. It made me consider switching majors because he simply has no idea what he is talking about and sucked the joy out of filmmaking for me. Only take him if you need to otherwise save yourself the headache. Not to mention he is just a dreadful human being. The class is only easy because he is so stupid.

I don't know what everyone else is talking about. He is a little creepy but is a very nice guy. His class is NOT easy though. But who ever said filmmaking was easy? His tests are REALLY hard because he makes you study A LOT and only puts like 10 questions on the test. If you try on the films he will give you an A. Just stay on his good side.

He is the biggest most pompous ass I have ever had the misfortune to meet. He makes his classes form groups, and as an uncanny ablity to choose people who have a bit of animosity toward one another. Choose anyone other than this guy and you'll have a better experience I can assure you.

I think 95% of the class failed the first 4 assignments and continued to do poorly the rest of the semester. He is so boring and just not a nice person. Not only do the students dislike him, most, if not all of the faculty do not like him either. DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN. YOU WILL REGRET IT.
