Comment:
He is a very dry prof. when in lecture. He holds you to a very high standard and you really need to read the chapter and slides before going to class to have any idea whats going on. His tests are fair if you do the practice problems and you need the answer book as well, it's extra money but worth it because most of his test questions come from it.

Monotone lectures and high expectations with no clue how to clearly get the point across. Lectures are long and convoluted. I would learn more sitting in my dorm reading from the textbook, but would still fail the exams. Only exam grades, no cheat sheets, he was forced to drop the lowest grade bc the 3rd exam no one got over a 70.

Eric Block is top 5 one of the worst teachers ever . I had Welch for Organic Chemistry 1, although many people hate him, I actually enjoyed his class and despite being a hard topic i acquired an A. Second semester comes and Eric Block has taught me nothing. I am unable to properly study for tests and the way his tests are set up, its hard af.

Dr. Block is a wonderful teacher. Orgo 2 is a tough class, but if you have a good understanding of orgo 1 you'll do fine. Go to class, take notes, STUDY by doing example problems and you'll do fine. Don't be discouraged if you don't do well at first. I was failing but i got it together and got an A- in the class. Go to him for help if you need it.

Really not as bad as people make him out to be. He expects a strong understanding of the concepts learned in orgo 1. Notes and slides are based on the textbook but if you go to class he generally says what he is going to ask questions on so you can efficiently study. Helpful in office hours and gives letters of rec for B or up.

The professor is not very helpful, and he does not take the time to explain the material. He will just tell you to refer to the textbook. However, his tests are honestly fair if you follow his slides with the textbook. He made ridiculously easy towards the end (4th and final exam). He curves a lot too--77 is an A. Don't be scared to take it.

honestly one of the worst professors i have ever come across. Dont bother going to lecture because all he does is repeat everything that's in the textbook. His tests are very tricky. If you want to get a good grade in this class, USE THE TEXTBOOK. I managed to get a B without going to class and by studying on my own with the textbook.

His first three tests were incredibly difficult, but after half the class dropped, he got a lot nicer and easier. You're gonna want that textbook. There's a bunch of material, and he tests rigorously. He seems to soften up as the semester goes on.

He used the same exam for 2 years straight. (with 40% of the class getting 100s, and used that to make him feel like a good teacher) Then, this year he decides to make new exams, and the whole class is FAILING FAILING FAILING. You can full 100 pages of notes per exam, and still FAIL FAIL FAIL. Prepare to lower your esteem. TERRIBLE TEACHER!!!!

Horrible man. Can't teach, arrogant and not helpful at all. Be prepared to be told to drop the course on the first day of class. He wants to cut down the number of students so he won't have to grade so many papers.

Poor teacher, not helpful and arrogant. Don't bother going to class. Just ask around for old exams. You won't fail this course if you have old exams. He's too lazy to change them. Or, go to CARSS as they basically teach based on his old exams. The tutors will even give you copies.

Dr. Block told me that as a non-traditional student (that is old) I should not be taking this course at all and should not consider teaching science. I went elsewhere, got an A and taught high school science before I went to work in medical policy.

I never went to class because he doesn't teach. If you want an A, get ahold of previous exams because half the test are taken from them and also do the problems in the back of the book. that's it, no tricks. not only is an 80% an A, but he also gives bonus questions and drops the lowest test. you couldnt ask for more in an orgo2 class.

I don't know about previous years, but this class is now a joke. The class average is a B , and I'd say 50% of the class get A's on the exams. A lot of memorization but he takes some questions from old exams and from the book so just do those and you're guaranteed a B or better. SO EASY.

People like to blame Professor Block for doing so poorly in the class. It isn't his fault at all, the material is extremely difficult and he does a decent job. You need to work very hard to do well that is with or without him. Most of these people don't put in the work needed to do well in Organic 2. He is an excellent teacher.

Horrible teacher....if you can call him that. He never actually taught, unless reading word for word from the book is teaching. All he wanted was people to drop his class, and worried more about that than helping people learn the material. worst teacher ever!!

Terrible teacher. Gives little partial credit. Runs through material like Sonic the Hedghog, so it is very hard to keep up. Seems to know his stuff, but doesn't understand that students need time to study and comprehend the material. Try to avoid if possible.
