Comment:
Helpfulness-wise, she is eager to assist, but the advice and answers she gives rarely simplify the material. Her accent is easy to understand, but her handwriting is atrocious -- I just use the book. Additionally, the homework and quizzes often don't relate to class discussions, so the textbook will quickly become your best friend.

I had to drop this course. For comparison, I retook it with a different prof and got an A. With Barberis teaching, there's no way I could have passed. She in no way prepares you for quizzes and tests, because the homework and practice tests are completely irrelevant to the actual graded material. Her lectures are disorganized and tedious. SKIP HER

Physics is a horrible subject, but she keeps me interested for the hour I have to sit there. She knows what she is talking about and that is refreshing. Quizzes every week are often given without proper preparation. Do your homework even though you don't have to hand it in...and cramster.com is a life saver for this class.

Nice woman, but not the best teacher. She means well, but doesn't do many examples. Quizzes every week, 2 midterms and a final. If you like physics and understand it, GREAT! if you hate it and don't understand it then beware.

pretty good. might be a bit hard to understand if you have no physics background, but refer to the book (you'll probably have to for the mandatory HW) and you'll be fine. Plenty of quizzes and hw, grades pretty easily, sometimes a bit boring, but i'd recommend her.

If youre new to physics the class will be challenging for you. Attendance is usually useless b/c the lectures come straight from the book. She usually derives formulas in class but doesnt do enough applications. However, do the reading and attend the recitations to do well on the weekly quizzes and exams. She seems too smart to teach others.

She gives great lectures and presents in a very clear manner. Her class was fairly straightforward, however, it could have been more challenging.

Apparently a lot of people who rated her are first year students. You're in college, her accent is nothing. Not a BAD teacher, but not my favorite. She does what she has to and that's about it. I kind of drifted off in class, she didn't grab my attention. But she knows Physics.

Forget the accent, she just doesn't explain stuff very well. Don't expect much help from her either. If you have a better choice, skip her.

Awesome Professor. One of the best here. If you have a problem with her accent you probably need to travel a bit more or pay attention to the lecture, it really shouldn't be a stumbling block. She's always willing to answer questions and her excitement about the subject was apparent and infectious.

She is very hard to understand and concentrate on. I believe she has a disability to focus on one topic for more than 14 seconds. She makes a valiant effort to cover the material, but often loses track.

Let me clarify: the problem with Barberis is that it is VERY difficult to concentrate on what she's saying. She rambles and tends to stumble a lot; she is unclear and does NOT teach well; besides, everything she teaches is in the book. The only point in going to lecture is for the concept questions.

Awesome professor! An extremely smart woman and excellent teacher. Big deal if she has an accent. There will be more difficult issues in life than professors with accents.

Ok, note to snobby English-is-my-only-language students: get real! Have you never heard an accent before? Prof. Barberis speaks EXCELLENT English with a very understandable accent. She really knows how to teach, creates a logically-structured class, and has excellent knowledge in her field.

she has an accent...big deal i found lectures pretty useless, but it wasn't her fault. she expanded on some ideas pretty well and derived everything for us on the board (which took too long many times), but for the most part, she was pretty good.

God would have trouble understanding what this woman was saying. English? Not really. Just loud because of the little mic she clips to her shirt. Someone please fire her.

English is deffinatley not her first language. Her accent is pretty comical unless your actually trying to learn something from her. She teaches straight from the book and does little to expand on what she's teaching.
