Comment:
Dr. Sotnak seems to really cares about the foundation and ideologies in ethics. His lectures are pretty digestible, and basically as long as you have the notes written down you can easily do the written quizzes. There were 6 one page quizzes, and he seemed to grade nicely. He is very knowledgeable, but sad that people didn't pay attention to class.

Took this class online. Very easy class. 70% of class is discussion, 30% between two quizzes. Video lectures are great, he presents a lot of topics and ideas through his own eyes, but challenges you to think for yourself. Never had to email with questions. Very easy grader. Reference materials given online for full points. Can go at your own pace.

Professor Sotnak asks you to think. He does assign chapters from the book but nothing too lengthy and it does help with the lectures. He provides good feedback on your assignments and does not grade you on whether your opinion matches his. He grades honestly.

Most of your grade depends on your responses to discussion questions, which are super easy. The final paper was a bit tedious, but he's an easy grader.

He uses all of his lectures to talk and relay information that will be needed for the papers. All grades are writing, but he is a kind and fair grader. The class was stressful as a non-philosophy major, but he made it pretty easy to pass and was a nice guy.

I took this class online. There are no deadlines so you can work at your own pace. Quizzes are not hard to answer if you watch the lectures and are only worth 1 point. He does not give tests just 3 short essays. There are only deadlines on essays. His online lectures can be annoying because he has a monotone voice. Did not use book at all.

I had Dr. Sotnak for an on-line ethics class and really enjoyed it. You could essentially go at your own pace and it was pretty easy and didn't require much time. His on-line video lectures were also quite amusing.

He guides your mind through philosophy, but never once tells you what you should be thinking. Grades fairly, and has clear standards for tests.

I took his class online and this is my first class I've taken online and was very happy to have chosen his course. Quizzes are not hard and require just a few sentences to answer, only worth 1 point. We did not have any exams or tests, we had 3 essays 3-4 pages in length. I would recommend this prof to anyone. There are only deadlines on essays.

I hated every minute of his class. Dragged on and on, day after day. His notes were all over the place. Wasted money on a book he told us to get, never talked about it or opened it once. Asked him a question about an assignment very politely, he got nasty with me about it. The worst professor I have ever had.

Dr. Sotnak was excellent for this class. He developed concepts clearly and naturally. Attendance & participation (actually reading) are the best things you can do to succeed in this class. Assigns open-ended essays as tests, which seem difficult, however, he grades based on your thoughts, not your writing skills. Make you think... opened my eyes.

I really liked Dr. Sotnak! He explained the concepts clearly and made them really easy to understand. There were 2 essay exams, which he graded fairly. The quizzes could be difficult, but you have unlimited tries. I would recommend him!

I really liked this guy. He is an excellent lecturer and extremely smooth when transitioning from one topic to another. Even though he puts his notes online I would recommend taking notes in class too.

I really liked him. Some topics were a little strange, but he explained them well. We had 4 in class exams. I was never really sure entirely what he was looking for and I got B's on them, but I still got an A in the class. Just go to class, read the book, take good notes, and do the online quizzes when he assigns them and you'll do great!

He looks for very well thought out, specific arguments on his essay tests. The quizzes were all on Springboard and super easy because you had unlimited tries. Sotnak explains the material extremely well and his movies are great.

There are 2 very easy essay exams and you can miss 8 classes before it affects grading. The hard part were the quizzes that are 40% of your grade. They are 5 questions and difficult. You miss one question and you are in trouble. Without the quizzes great class!

Excellent professor. Even if you're not interested in philosophy or ethics, it is still a very interesting class. No homework - only 2 tests that are take-home essays and another essay. Like everyone says, he allows you 10 absences. I was in his honors class, and it was a wonderful class that I very much enjoyed.
