Took Aley for Calc I and II, very knowledgeable but lacks lecture skills; lectures tend to be drawn out and go on for hours but it's calculus, he makes jokes on rare occasion which are funny when you don't expect them. Grades exams on a curve and gives a practice prev. exam to study from, overall very good teacher, wish he taught Calc 3...

Mr. Aley is pure genius. He curves his tests based on the performance of the class. If you score 65 and you have the top score, congrats! your score is 100 now. Want to do better? Study harder than your classmates. Also, it is a math class. You have to do homework to understand the material. There is no way around that at college level.

A GREAT PROFESSOR! VERY CLEAR. JUST NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO LECTURES AND HW REVIEWS--HE IS VERY HELPFUL AS WELL. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR TOO. :)

Not the most entertaining lecturer(then again it is calculus). Gives a pretest that is identical to the exam, and gives a good curve for just showing up to class! I recomend him and I will be taking 2311 with him next semester.

Took Calc I and II with Aley. Extremely knowledgeable professor, lectures are extremely dry and boring, but his exams are almost identical to the practice ones given previously. Always willing to help pass the test in which ever way he can. Curves his test. Once in a while he will crack a joke.

I think Dr. Aley is an excellent professor. He hands out a practice exam that is almost identical to the test the class period before each exam. If you do the homework, the practice exams, and study(duh). You should have an A.

He is enjoyable because he wants to be. Take this class because you want to. If you have passion there shouldn't be a problem right? He is amicable and even though these reviews may contradict it's up to you to commit. Prepare to follow his syllabus. In any case I havn't had any significant concerns. Highly Recommend.

Took calc I and II with Aley. The farther up you go in math, Aley tends tolike the class more. Very helpful on tests, tests are hard but you can bring study sheets to the tests. Curves tests if you show up, homework isn't mandatory but it helps, goes over tests before the actual exam and will answer any questions during the exam.

Teaches directly from overhead and the material is already dry. He does try and will provide you will a sample exam that is very close to the actual exams. He puts the work on the student to learn the material. I got an A but i struggled to understand it. Attendance is mandatory for your test to be curved. homework is voluntary but important.

not very helpful.. teaches from the overhead.. and when you ask for help he looks at you like your crazy and then says.. its all there cant you see.. you say no and he says oh well.. NEVER TAKE!!!

Not the best, but not the worst either. His practice tests are just like the real thing. He is very picky on the grading and seems to put too much emphasis on proofs for me (I'm going for engineering-not math).Take Cantwell instead if possible.

E. Aley is the one to take Calc I with if you just need it to fill a pre-req. The "practice" tests look almost identical to the real tests. Do the homework (if you need it to understand), wrap your head around the concepts, and do the practice tests 2-3 times before the real one. I got an "A" with this method, and no pre-calc or trig background.

Knows his stuff but unless you are self motivated and able to teach yoursellf I wouldn't recommend him. He does not explain the material well at all but he does give awsome curves on the 2 tests which determine your grade. Just be prepared to teach yourself the material and make sure you are there for the extra credit quizzes.

This professor is awesome. Is he tough? Yes. However, I learned more in a 6 week class with him than any other math class. He only gave four tests that made up your entire grade. In the end he averaged in the highest test twice! He also gives a sample test that looks pretty close to the actual test. The homework doesnt count, but do it for practice

this is a very difficult teacher. His tests are only around 7 questions and he is a perfectionist on answers, he does curve and a c or better is possible but unless your extremely good at math, take someone else!
