I had Dr. Fitter 3 times during my undergraduate degree and I highly recommend him. Dr. Fitter is a compassionate man once you get to know him and his level of knowledge of Shakespeare as well as history and English is mind blowing. He challenged me in ways I never thought I would be challenged and I am thankful he did.

Dr. Fitter is one of the best professors at RUC! He's an absolute genius and you'll learn a lot from him, really broadening your vocabulary and way of thinking. Let yourself be challenged! If you can't handle sarcasm and don't do the reading/studying you won't make it, but his classes can be the best you'll take at Rutgers if you put in the work.

Best professor I've ever taken. If the students actually give a genuine effort in the class he understands and helps accordingly. He is very harsh when it comes to arguments and debate, but that's exactly what a professor should be doing. Your opinion should be challenged - and he does that better than any other professor.

I didn't see the class listed but I took him for War and The Warrior. I really enjoyed his classes. He will encourage you to think differently. He explains things in a clear way. My only issue is time constraints. He can go off on tangents, and in that case you have to make up for the notes by reading. A lot of reading too. Very interesting.

Just overall rude. Called a student fat. One assignment consisted of doing 45 pages of notes on a book he wrote. Then proceeded to say that if u got a C on the notes then you need to read more in your spare time. His book was literally a cypher. Ultimately he's just has a large ego from his intellect.

Exposes you to new concepts and approaches to literature and society. As long as you are open to at least learning new ideas this won't offend you. He's very clear in telling you what he wants for his papers and offers guidance if you need it. Gives good feedback and pushes you to do well. I would definitely recommend him.

Awesome professor, challenges you to think critically, take notes in class and study them for the test. If you do that you will be fine, a little challenging but not too bad

Isn't the easiest class, but if you put the time in and go over the notes he gives in class, you will do good. People can get offended by his humor, but I thought he was hilarious. He knows his stuff.

Great professor don't let the comments discourage you...unless you are not a deep thinker or aren't ready to learn facts that may contradict what you have been taught growing up. The intellectual person can respect Dr. Fitter and his mission to expand and enhance your critical thinking. Best class and professor I've had at rutgers thus far! Too bad it was only for 4 weeks in the summer..got out of reading so Many books tho ;)

After reading the comments left about dr fitter, I was not looking forward to his class at all! World literature in my opinion was boring. But Dr. Fitter teaches the history and therefore makes it easy to understand the significance behind the literature. He brings a real world understanding of the literature through real historic examples. He is highly intelligent and was pretty funny. I enjoyed his British accent. I learned things that have changed my way of thinking. Not easy but interesting!

Comment:
Fitter's class was excellent. He's a Marxist, but it was refreshing to hear another viewpoint about Shakespeare. The best part of Dr. Fitter's course is you analyze the plays as PLAYS rather than poems. Participate in class and do the readings. Not an easy A, but he'll help you if you ask for it. He knows the subject VERY well.

Great professor, friendly, challanging. Yes, he is a Marxist, it is to student's advantage to have the opportunity to hear a range of viewpoints outside the cable news major party dialog. I'm not a Marxist, but loved his class, and am glad we haven't yet reached the point where we'd censor ideas we disagree with.

Dr. Fitter is a decent person, and helpful. He knows his subject, but he wishes students to see Shakespeare from an angle which may be new to them. He includes his other interests in class: martial arts and the environment. I think he is OK, generous in his own way. He certainly has a political view, and may have some negative experience, some

He is a good professor with great notes and really knows what he is teaching. However his evaluations are difficult if you are not an English student. I failed the first midterm because I didn't understand his format, but the second two assignments I got a B/B+ on. Slightly willing to compromise but won't remember you each time you talk to him.

Comment:
Dr. Fitter is extremely knowledgeable about his subject, and a variety of other topics. His class can be difficult, since the final grade is determined by one midterm and a term paper, and optional final. So, if you do poorly on either of those requirements, you're in the red, but if you clearly know the material he rewards you for it. Got an A.

I thought he was very good. I can understand how some may disagree, since he can be a bit critical and touchy about taking notes. But overall, I thought he was a very good professor who made the material genuinely interesting and put it in the context of the time. If you enjoy reading and discussing, you'll probably like his class.

Terrible teacher. He has a great accent but that is the only great thing about him. He is rude, mean, nasty, annoying, insanely difficult, does not grade fairly or test fairly, and he definitely believes that only a minority of the class should pass and the rest should get C's or lower...
