Father Rynes really cares about his students. There is a decent amount of reading and writing, but your writing will improve and his grading isn't too difficult if you put the effort into it. He is a super nice man and I highly recommend him.

Double major here, one is English. By far Father Rynes is my favorite professor. He is kind and funny, but the things I appreciate the most about him are his dedication to teaching and concern for individual students. He gives a lot of work, and a lot of reading. But it is worth it- and i've taken 3 of his classes!

Extremely intelligent and wise instructor with years of knowledge and experience. He will push your capabilities in writing, though. Not that his class is all that hard, but don't take him if you want an easy A. Take him because you genuinely want to improve your writing, or even improve yourself as a whole.

I love Father Rynes! He is extremely wise and intelligent, and always cracks lots of jokes (funny ones) during class. His assignments are clear and concise, and he is a fair grader. I did not have any trouble in his class. I took his Literature and Religion class and I will be taking ENGL 20 from him next quarter. I highly reccomend him!

Fantastic professor. I'm taking him for the second time now (first class was ENGL 42, now I'm in ENGL 146). The daily paragraphs were a bit daunting at first, but they really help you to focus your ideas. I can't recommend him highly enough-- he showed me that just because something is hard to read, doesn't mean that you can't understand it.

Great teacher. Taught me to look at Shakespeare at a whole different level. Also had students try snuff when reading "Rape of the Lock" - that rocked.

I couldn't disagree more. He was incredibly uninteresting and was condescending to the students. I almost switched majors during his class. One of the worst professors I had at Santa Clara.

Father Rynes rocks! You couldn't ask for a cooler Professor. He's witty and fun. There's a lot of work, but if you plan ahead you can tackle it. Don't believe the hype about "C- Rynes." It isn't true--unless you don't apply yourself.

Quasi-seminar class...lots of discussion and research. Professor is interested in efficient writing. Many one page assignments. Theme of the course was "Millennial Generation" Five page research paper was geared to that topic. + A fair and helpf
