Took this class looking for an interesting elective/ gpa booster, which was a terrible idea. First midterm is not bad however if you haven't gone through the textbook with a fine tooth comb memorizing small details the second midterm and final will be very difficult. Never really knew what topics to focus on.

Absolutely loved his class! Discussions were always fascinating and he seemed super into his topic and extremely knowledgeable. Exams were fair but you must go to class to succeed in his class since he doesn't post any of his materials. Left with a solid understanding on what he had instructed.

Exam questions are heavily from the textbook. He tries to make his lectures interesting which I respect, cause some of the material is a bit boring. Everyone has told me Anthro is the easiest course in the world, but his class was more on the normal difficulty level rather than insane easy. Also has a french accent but still easy to understand.

The slideshows he uses for notes can get pretty dull sometimes, a lot of the cool and important information is usually said verbally. He would pop in some jokes every once in a while, which was helpful for an 8:00 AM class. Tells you exactly which topics are going to be on the exam. However, a textbook is necessary to do the midterms

Lectures great, informative, he's entertaining and passionate. Seems the lecture slides have been the same over last 6-7 years! 90% weight of course is on tough multiple choice tricky too. Despite studying hard I did poorly and worrisome as these tests are 90% of grade! disappointed that we are still in 21st C assessing on how much you memorize

Some of the material is dry at times, but he does his best to keep the class entertained with his jokes and commentary. He doesn't post any notes online, so go to class and/or get the notes from a friend. As long as you pay attention, do the additional readings, and go through the study guide for the midterms and final you'll get a great mark

Dr. Larose was a good prof, but he did sometimes give off the vibe that maybe he didn't want to be there, which could affect your motivation a little bit. Did not post slides online. Exams were 50/50 textbooks and lectures (3 different textbooks) The class itself was enlightening. It'll change your view on the arbitrary categorization of races

Comment:
Dr. Larose's class had online quizzes were open book, but a lot of the multiple choice answers in the quizzes had discrepancies with what the textbook actually stated (wrong dates, etc.). The writing assignments were also unclear, as they left out how long the assignment should be, and instructions had spelling errors in them. Easy marker though.

Professor Larose was hilarious and you could tell he was passionate about race and racism. Half of the things that you need to know for the exams are based on the textbooks needed for the class and half are from lectures. He doesn't post his notes online which actually made me go to class to get the notes myself. Overall, great prof!

His sarcastic humour makes lectures interesting. Doesn't post notes, so attendance is a must. Exams are 50% lecture/50% text, not something you can study for last minute as there's lots of reading and memorizing. He provides study notes for each chapter which is nice. Class is curved. Exams are too detailed based for a 100-level class imo.

Only had two midterms and a final for marks, so I wish there was more to base the mark on. Wasn't a bad lecturer, but I wish he was more interesting at times. Pretty decent class.

Francois was a great lecturer (good for a course with dry/tedious content). Often times he was quite condescending towards students, but it did not affect class content. The midterms were extremely textbook-focused, which was a little disappointing because there is a lot of repetitive reading, but the final was easy compared to the other tests.

He was a very funny prof, kept me interested. Slides arent posted online but easy to just ask your neighbour for notes so no complaints. He doesnt take attendance but theres the odd question on something he said not in the notes. You have to read the textbook as it contains info you need for the tests. First midterm and final were fairly easy.

This course is more difficult/demanding than 400-level classes I've taken; do not take as a GPA booster. However, it's incredibly worthwhile and Prof. Larose is super passionate about it. DO THE READING- gives you everything you need to know in question packets and if you answer those the exams are not too bad. GO TO CLASS- notes are not posted.

Dr. Larose's lectures were funny so it made them bearable. I personally did not enjoy the content, so this might've affected how much I enjoyed his teaching. The textbook is very necessary as the tests rely heavily on the readings. His lectures were kind of the bare bones of what you needed to know. He also doesn't put lecture slides online.

If you are having an issue with his grading, go into a meeting with him armed - preferably with a reference from the textbook. In the face of obvious errors in his grading or exams, he tends to react intransigently. Not questioning him nearly cost me a letter grade. If you pay attention and attend class, you won't find passing difficult.

I'm surprised this prof doesn't have a better rating. He is a very knowledgable man and explains concepts VERY clearly. He adds in some awkward humour here and there which is nice. His slides are clear and concise but you gotta go to class to get em. Heavy textbook readings but he gives a clear guideline of what you have to know/don't have to know

His PPT notes are minimal, so type fast to catch all that he says vocally during the lecture. Very intelligent, knowledged man. Interesting lectures. Answers questions clearly, tells funny anectodes along the way. No assignments. 2 midterms, 1 final. Tests extensively from his lectures & textbook, so be prepared and up-to-date with reading along.
