Comment:
Dr. Viehe is knowledgeable about history, and his lectures can be informational, witty, and interesting. However, he does not make room for any feedback, so you will feel as if he is talking AT you. The most problematic was his use of the N-word on three separate occasions. On the first occasion, I expressed my discomfort. He did not care.

Professor Viehe is a mixed bag. He can be a very interesting professor to listen to and talk with, but the lectures are a lost cause. He breezes through three terms in one sentence and you're left reeling. Preparing for the final now, and the final study guide is a mess. 23 questions, with parts that I'm positive weren't in the lecture.

The class is built around four papers that are five pages in length and one book review ten pages in length. Doesn't give good expectations of papers, but grades fair and will give extensions. There is also one midterm and one final. If you get A's on the papers it leaves you room to fail the tests, which is what happened to everyone I talk to.

Very nice professor who is willing to listen to what you have to say. However he is hard to reach and I found him to with hold information when asking questions and lacking being specific for what it is that he desires on written papers. I felt like I never knew what he expected on papers & I like he did not prepare me for exams.

Dr. Viehe is one of the most intelligible educators I've had the good fortune to work with. He loves to tell a good story, an essential tool for any history teacher of quality. But most importantly you will walk away from his course with a better understanding of the world. Lots of notes, interesting topics, a knowledgable and fair professor

Not a very good professor. I wouldn't recommend taking him. I'm currently in his class and I'm not enjoying him. He gives notes in class but he gets sidetracked to much. One minute he is giving us important notes the next he is talking about his personal life. Never responds to his email or phone.

Dr. Viehe prepares you for college. If you're not ready to write and come to class don't take the class. He's very helpful if you come up to him after class or in his office, so don't be shy!

Completely unhelpful in class, gets sidetracked on personal story tangents. Assigns papers that are complex on an unwarranted scale. If you skip there's a very high chance that you'll fail.

Definitely a class you need to go to and pay attention Dr Viehe is probably one of the best professors Ive had at YSU there are 4 papers and 2 tests this class is not a blow off class but very very interesting and you will learn a lot of new information compared to other American history classes Viehe is simply a fantastic and interesting prof.

Dr. Viehe's History of Organized crime was one of the most interesting courses I've taken. You must NOT skip classes though because he note sheets will be vital for tests. He is flexible and understanding, but expects your best work. His lectures are humorous and very well informed.

Great professor. Worth coming to class and taking notes, they're helpful at test time. He gives a couple of essay-type exams, a few longer papers, and one book review. Tough grader, but fair. You will have to work for this class, like any other upper level class.

He's really not that bad as long as you go to class and take notes. He grades fairly and he explains everything. His study guides are HUGE but they basically give you the questions for the exam. I passed the course with a B and I never took notes.

His Org. Crime class is a TON of writing. Be prepared for 25 pages of essays and two essay exams throughout the course. He does not grade easy, either! Viehe is a no nonsense type of guy! However, he is entertaining, very respectable and the cutest old guy I've ever seen. Unlike other profs, getting an A in his class makes you feel rewarded!

Attendance is not mandatory but recommended. You need all of his lectures to pass the class. His tests are difficult and he grades the papers hard. I am a history major and I had trouble with the class. I passed with a C. Although, he was a nice guy and let me meet with him a couple times over grades I got.

absolutely loved this class!! no attendance policy, but gives 30xtra points if you go. date the handouts & notes, follow them. be prepared to WRITE & study for the midterm/final. dont panic when you see the long essay questions, they all follow the handouts & notes to the letter. Pick a good research paper topic. Received an A in fall 2010.

Rarely responded to e-mails, graded harshly and wouldn't give comments or reasoning for points taken off, and gave lengthy 30 essay study guides for a final in which he would pick only a few from the list. Would not recommend by any means. I am a 4.0 student getting a B in his class because he graded papers as low B's without any reason.

Cutest old guy in the world. Loved his class. Made history very interesting and set up class for you to succeed. Essay tests were a little tedious but as long as you show up to class and listen you'll do great!

Only 2 exams, 1 paper, and 2 small essays. The exams are both all essay, but he only makes you write 2 essays for each exam. If you come to class, follow the papers he hands out and take nots according to them, its easy to get an A

I LOVE THIS MAN! He was very interesting! Nicest guy in the world! If you asked for an extension on a paper he gave it to you no questions asked! The midterm and final are essay tests but he gives you a list of possible essays before the test. We also wrote 3 other papers in this class, all of which I got A's on.
