I love Professor Brahm! Democracy in America is probably the most interesting class I have taken! He is such an animated speaker, and also pretty funny. I find myself referring to things I learned in his class constantly, and I feel bad for American Studies majors who will miss out on his insightful lectures!

Best teacher I have ever had at UCSC. Thinks for himself, and ends up neither on the right, nor on the left. Sad to see him go. :(

Brahm is great! I changed to an American Studies minor because of him. I took his class "American Political Cultures" for the GE, and instantly fell in love with it. Lost of reading and tough, but the lectures were well constructed and very useful. He is strict about lecture, make sure your celphone is off.

He's excited and loves what he teaches but I think he's downright irritating. He requires a LOT of reading and goes on and on and says he'll do something but never gets to it because he loves to talk. What's the most irritating thing is how he doesn't appear to LISTEN to students when they talk. He'll do other stuff like he has nothing better to do

Avoid at all costs. He is so unbelievably strict about his lectures, that you will be afraid to move at all. He thinks the world of himself, and his lectures are useless, although mandatory. Save yourself from three months of torture and avoid this teacher if you can.

Definitely my favorite professor so far. I took this class to fill a GE and it has really been worth it. It helps that Brahm can lecture fantastically and really is enthusiastic about what he is teaching. Very humble, likeable guy, not pretentious at all. The reading doesn't seem to be overwhelming so far, and the essays are shorter than AMST 1.

This guy is ridiculously strict about lectures. You can't take notes on your computer, if you have a cell phone, or if you whisper something to your neighbor, he yells at you. Lectures are mandatory even though they're not really necessary and totally boring. I wish someone had told me how bad this class was going to be.

I liked his class. Learned a lot. It made me think a lot too. Try and concentrate on what he is saying( its hard at first), its important and interesting stuff. You have to read a lot in this class, but you really don't have to read everything. The grade in this class totaly depends on the TA, the tacher practically doesn't grade anything!

Some people do not like his class, and I must admit he can be somewhat of a facist. No talking, no cell phones, mandatory lectures etc. The only reason he is so strict is that he REALLY wants people to learn. Boy did I ever! He can be kind of scattered and lectues can be disorganized but that is because so much information comes at you at once.

Very interesting lectures. Moderate to heavy amount of reading but I heard he lightened the load, nevertheless excellent picks for readings. Gives a great overview of the 1960's movements and what started it. 2 essays and a final. good class and good professor :)

Professor Brahm was really great--he's the best teacher I've had so far in college (starting on my third quarter). The best thing about him is the passion and enthusiasm he shows for his subject. He's also extremely friendly. He makes the class so interesting that I always looked forward to going to it.

Lectures were difficult to follow, sometimes frustratingly so. Readings were interesting, and luckily the exams and papers dealt with material in readings (not lectures). He was helpful and does care about his students though.

Brahm-ski is the greatest professor I've ever had! Very intriguing class topic and amazing ways to look at it from the larger picture. You MUST read, but you'll really enjoy it all once you have! Go talk to him after class too - he's very knowledgable.

A LOT OF READING!!! have to do long & short essays on readings. tests are essay format. dont take this class if you have another class w/ reading. brahm is a good professor, but the material was especially hard for me, since i'm not interested in government or politics.

Brahm is a master of the word. his lectures are extremely intelligent and you'll quickly find yourself very interested in topics that you thought would never interest you. He inspired me to major in AMST.
