Comment:
Long lectures that can be rather dull at times, reading every night as well as a 300 word summary of what you read, only 2 papers comparing poetry, a midterm and the final. Group discussions every class, doesn't make you memorize terms, hates tests. Overall easy class, good instructor.

Hartley rocks. Super caring, enthusiastic guy, awesome readings, clearly spells out what he wants and grades leniently. 3 big papers (8-10p) & daily(ish) reading notes. Favorite prof I've had at OU. Course topics include reciprocity with nature, shamanism, and how the alphabet led us to destroying the environment. Great for nature-loversactivists.

Hartley is awesome. He just gives off good vibes. This class is fairly easy for a j-comp course, and the reading and writing amounts are reasonable. The reading reflections don't have strict deadlines and the essay prompts are just vague enough to allow some creativity. He does take attendance though. Would definitely recommend.

He is a very nice man but wasn't the teacher for me i felt the class became less about English and more about other cultures and religions.

Professor Hartley is a beautiful, brilliant man. I am taking a class with him for the second time, and he expands and motivates my thinking every time I talk to him. He has completely changed my outlook on the world and area of interest in English. If you are open to unconventional ideas and reading lists, Professor Hartley is an excellent choice.

Nice guy, approachable, but not the best of teachers. Has small group discussions that are supposed to segue into a big discussion but the segue never happens. Needs to give background info rather than assuming his students are theory heads to start with.Does not seem very interested in teaching either. If you have an alternative don't go for it.

English 250: was very interested in the course topic but was sick alot so missed class frequently. Bad at giving alot of information about his expectations from students but good at responding to emails.

Professor Hartley sometimes deviates from what one would expect from a class based on the book we were currently reading, but the integration of multi-media really works to the student's advantage. He expects a lot, but is willing to clarify if a student doesn't understand.

This teacher has no idea how to teach. He can't put a reading list together. He gives no guidance, gives horrible feedback on papers,he's monotone and boring, grades women differently than men. All talk and no action. Creepy activist white dude.

This guy knows his stuff. Reminds me of Norm McDonald. Always available outside of class, and a very fair grader. Hilarious, too! Would recommend to anyone.
