One of the worst professors I have ever had at Ohio State. He takes all his lecture material straight from the textbook and reads word for word off his slides, and if you ask a question in lecture he doesnt even know how to answer it. Homework is long and not based on his teachings. Exams always have one question over something we never learned.

His class overall wasn't difficult, but lectures were terrible and hard to follow. Slides were a wall of text, or else a diagram with a million arrows and components. The only saving grace was that the homework and exams were fairly easy. As long as you know the basics, you'll be fine for exams and won't have much trouble with the class.

He can't teach to save his life, but at least the material isn't brutally difficult.

Prof. Valco is one of my favorite professor. I enjoyed his class, lectures are a little boring but they are understandable and very useful for homeworks , tests are similar to homeworks and to his class reviews. And also hes a fair grader.

Hes a nice guy, but by far the worst professor Ive ever had. Reads directly from the screen and barley explains anything. Literally, does not explain a single thing. Lecture is not even worth going to but will occasionally have in class quizzes which forces me to show up.

I came to an understanding that the quality of OSU is really bad. Basically, you can add Dr. George J. Valco to your blacklist.

Overall worst professor I have had at Ohio State. Reads word for word off of his slides without elaborating or explaining the more difficult concepts in this course. His slides are also an exact copy and paste from the book. And to make it even better, he puts questions on exams that dont resemble anything in the book or in his slides,

His slides are just copy paste from the textbook. He reads from the slides word for word with no addition explanation. If you ask a question, he just rereads the slide without ever explaining it in a new way. Awful professor, avoid.

Brutal Class. Tons of homework, and a ridiculous amount of material covered, but I've never learned more in a class. You'll walk away from his lectures super confused, but the homeworks help a lot with understanding. Office hours and Review sessions are super helpful if you don't want to spend hours trying to piece everything together for homeworks

Valco's class is comically bad. There is way too many assignments and the lab doesn't even serve its intended purpose which is to teach you about fabrications processes. Every week you are turning in a pre-lab, post-lab, and class homework assignments that takes several hours. This is due to a large disconnect between lectures and assignments.

Take a class with this man only if you are passionate about the material and willing to teach yourself everything. Does not do examples. Notes and (terrible) book do not contain information needed to do homework. His class is structured as if you already know the information and he can't be bothered to attempt teaching how to do problems.

Lectures were long, homeworks were difficult, and tests were very time constrained. Every student in the class used homework solutions, and the tests, while slightly easier than the homeworks, were very long. The highest grade for the midterms were always 1-2 questions away from a full grade, because nobody was able to finish them. Avoid Valco.

The work in Valco's class is really heavy, demanding more time than some of my classes at the 5000 level. His homeworks are very long and you will need to use them as practice to pass his exams. Exams are difficult but not impossible. He is clear in his lectures and quite informative but lacks enough practical example. Recommend avoiding his class.

Don't know why the bad ratings. He is a great teacher but do not expect an easy class. If you want to learn then he is a great teacher. Tells you right off the bat what he expects from you. He is a harsh grader but overall well worth it.

Good luck if you take 3020 with Valco, the average in my class when all was said and done was a 40%. When we started there were 80 people in the class, at the end only 44 remained. And Valco refused to take this into consideration when he "curved." One person got a .1/10 on a quiz. Why bother give .1 of a point. He just seems cruel.

Valco is a nice dude, he is respectful and clear. You are going to do terrible in his class, though. I've spent about 9 hours on all of his 13 homeworks, and pulled all nighters before his exams. I got the third highest overall grade: 77%.

If not for his tough grading he would be a forgettable, average professor. As it stands I've started referring to him as Valco the Impaler. His exams are tough, he grades tough and he is not afraid to flunk half the class.

Valco teaches directly from the text. Unfortunately, Microelectronic Circuits by Sedra/Smith may be one of the most useless texts I have ever used. Valco is tough as nails. His course policies are reasonable, but he is not exactly helpful. The course is taught like it is presumed that one already understands the material.

He is incredibly tough when it comes to exams and homeworks. He throws tons of material at you and expects all of it to stick. The averages for the exams and overall class were horrid but he curves slightly. Avoid at all costs unless you are truly obsessed with microelectronics!
