Comment:

Very easy grader. For her research essay and midterm I got an A-, whereas I tend to get B, B- and C+ in my other essays and midterms from my other courses. She gives good lectures but can be very slow at times.

Comment:

Ginette is a knowledgable professor who cares about the success of her students. She spends time preparing students on how to write a proper research paper and gives you clear instructions on how to get a good mark. I would absolutely take another class with Ginette as I learned a lot in her class and also because it's a GPA booster.

Comment:

I took Intro to Latin American studies, Ginette and another 2 professors taught the 3 section course. Ginette was a fantastic teacher. She is knowledgeable about the content and is happy to help students understand what she is trying to teach. She gives a lot of info during lectures so taking notes is essential but also she does hands on learning

Comment:

She is very passionate about her subject, but she is incredibly boring. We just watch movies in class or she spends an hour explaining the same thing. She has weekly quizzes but most people leave right after it because she is incredibly boring to listen to. She does give good feedback on essays though, and gives her exam questions beforehand.

I don't understand the hate, she's one of my favorite teachers. She is very passionate about the subject and conveys it well. I found her lectures interesting, there were several films shown. LAMS can be a very depressing topic though. She knows the topic thoroughly. I will definitely take other courses with her. She's easy to talk to.

Comment:

Ginette's understanding of Latin Am history is incredibly profound, yet she has a way of explaining the concepts that makes the information so accessible. Her readings are also clear and comprehendible (though heart-wrenching). She continually reiterates themes and tests relate directly to these themes. I'm a B student but got all A's in her class.

Lectures are incredibly dry, she will just read the slides and quotes from readings.. Takes forever to get back to emails, and her assignments are often vague. Also relies too much on students explaining concepts which causes confusion and misinformation. Very boring, hard marker. Would NOT take again.

I took Ginette's class in the summer for LAMS 1100. Honestly, I don't know much about Latin America or the culture. When I took the introductory class, I was fascinated. I took LAMS 2203 because Ginette was teaching it. She is helpful,& she's a sweet woman. She is passionate,& you learn alot about how the world works. I'd take her again if I could!

You can tell that she enjoys what she is teaching. Her experiences in Latin America were useful to her teaching but she is a bit dry and is a hard marker. Very contradictory about what she wants for the term paper. Hard to get in touch with and does not, or takes along time to reply to emails. You will learn a lot from her though.

AVOID took this class and loved the first 4 weeks with dif prof but as soon as Ginette started her section(takes 5 weeks) I just wanted to die...she is so dry. its hard to stay awake in class. started printing out slideshows but wouldnt put them online cause she was using them to get people in class-didnt work.PLUS takes forever to respond to email

worst instructor i've encountered in all my years at langara. She speaks incredibly slow, is drab, very biased towards the left. Relies heavily on boring videos-I didn't pay for that! & powerpoint slides also available online. You could probably snag an easy mark.For the record, I loved LAMS and I still had to drop to class-BAD

If you're not interested in Latin American Studies, don't bother. If you are, she's great! She's passionate about Latin America and tries to inspire others to feel the same passion. She's approachable, very helpful, encouraging and a very fair marker. I highly recommend this class and her as a professor. Interesting textbook as well.

Ginette is a passionate teacher and very is engaging in her lectures. She had a way of encouraging class discussion that allowed students to really get a clear picture of the material. She is a fairly easy marker, and allows you to e-mail in your essay ahead of time. She goes the distance for her students. And to all of you who are so bored in her
