Comment:
I was in his SOCI 3040 class. As long as you attend every lecture, there is no need to do the novel readings SERIOUSLY. BUT that means you will probably leave the course with a B if you grasp the content Multiple choice on his tests are a hit or miss, lots of trick questions the mul. choice can actually screw up your mark and bring you to a C or D.

Comment:
Prof. Ali could be more engaging in lectures as the lecture content is fairly dry. Just be detailed in your reading logs and explain your thoughts as much as you can in the midterm and final exam essays. He is helpful if you have any questions so ask if you don't understand a concept.

He is there for the benefit of the students, he has a vast background and is not there to push the institutions agenda. He will gladly take input from students and adjust course materials accordingly. I have taken several courses with him.

Comment:
Ali was not my most engaging professor but he makes up for it by lecturing with clarity. He's always well prepared for class and is a clear expert in this area. He's no doubt a wealth of knowledge but lacks that extra something to make him that over the top amazing professor. Excellent course, good prof.

You can really tell he is passionate about what he teaches. If you listen you can get a great deal of information. He does tend to read off the slides and elaborates on them minimally unless he is giving specific examples.

He cares about students, his lectures are interesting and he is always up for answering questions. His tests are tough, but if you've studied, you'll likely do well. If you have a problem he will understand.

his lectures were comprised of 'mmkays' - essays on the midterm were bs (just copy the slides); projects were killed. overall, hes not that bad if you are forced to take the course.

By Far.... the best lecturer I've ever had at York and I'm in my fourth year. Topics are good, and he covers them well and gets the class involved. 2.5hrs feels like 1hr in his class. Don't know how he marks yet, his mid term was pretty tough. Lets see. Great proff
