Worst professor I have EVER taken. Be prepared to feel like all your efforts is worthless. She's a nice lady but she grades based on answer sheets which she wants to see meticulously replicated WORD-FOR-WORD! In-cohesive lectures, annoying tangents, and unnecessarily detailed instructions. BE WARNED!!!!

Comment:

She doesn't give much homework, you don't NEED to read the textbook to pass as long as you go to class, and all "pop quizzes" are heavily hinted at so they are never a surprise. All her tests have the same format so you learn how to study for them. Always ask questions immediately because the content builds on itself. She is very nice if you try.

DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. PROFESSOR. She lives in the stone age, refusing to post any information online, instead passing out paper copies of everything in class. If you miss class and can't make office hours, tough luck. She also grades unnecessarily heavily, and she is so slow and condescending in class. She sucked out any optimism I had right away.

Professor Hu was the WORST professor I have ever had! She was immensely rude and condescending. She does not accept emails nor is she accessible. She won't tell you your grade EVEN if you ask her. She expects you to have knowledge of the material. She gets upset if you don't understand what she is teaching. DON'T TAKE HER!

She speaks in non-coherent ramblings and often repeats childhood anecdotes irrelevant to the course. I spoke with her during office hours regarding the term paper and followed her directions on it, however, after the semester she issued a D, even though my first exam was a B. She refuses to respond to e-mail and releases grades months late.

Sadly I believe she is the only teacher that teaches grammar at the moment. Her teaching style is very dry and she likes to repeat herself a lot. She likes to give pop quizzes and ungraded homework. She also likes to call on people in class to provide answers to homework questions so be sure to do it even though it is not graded.

Undoubtedly a challenging class. I highly recommend showing up to class, reading the book, and doing homework. Dr. Hu is good at what she does. Although she is strict and has an old-school style of teaching, she has a good sense of humor & would tell fun stories to help you retain the information. Just study & practice the material & ask questions

Worst teacher ever. Extremely rude. Hard grader, I studied for every quiz and exam and have to drop because I am failing (Ive never failed an exam in my life let alone a class). 0/10 would recommend save yourself and DONT take this class. Two hour long lectures with no breaks and your not allowed on your phone or computer.

I was afraid to take the class after reading angry comments, but it is not difficult. Homework is not graded, but make sure you attend class when homework is being reviewed. I learned better from the homework review than from the lectures on the material. Quizzes (6 or 7) and easy and exactly like the homework. Exams (2) are the same way.

Reading reviews, I was afraid to take her class, but glad I did. She has an interesting way of teaching concepts that can sometimes be hard to follow if you are a visual learner, but with her repetition, the info gets drilled into you. Read the book to supplement her teaching. You pay to learn so if you can't understand, ASK questions till you do.

Her lectures will put you to sleep. She is the worst professor I have ever had. She really should not be teaching anymore, let alone at a University. Students are getting ripped off taking this course. More than half always end up dropping then only a third of those students left pass with a C or higher. Her explanations are convoluted. BEWARE.

Worst professor I've ever taken. Confusing, dry lectures. Has her unusual own style of grammar that students openly disagreed with. Extremely difficult grader, takes points off for trivial things, got my first D because of her. Need a 96/86% for an A/B. Grade6 written assignments, 5 quizzes, 1 final based on hw/quizzes. Very rude/condescending too

I took this professor my first semester, and I have to say that I'm glad I did. This professor teaches at an insane speed. I ended up getting a C,but I learned a lot about grammar. The last time I heard of pronouns, nouns ,etc. etc. was in elementary school. Homework not required but helpful!No extra credit ! A96

Quizzes make up 40% of final grade. hw is optional but highly recommended. Need 96% to get an A. Quizzes are spontaneous. 1 Midterm, 1 Final. Exam q's are formatted the same as hw and quizzes. Class time is devoted to going over quiz answers and hw, and some lecture.

Grades strangely: very nitpicky, and looks at your grades as a whole instead of by assignment. However, I've found that being cordial and friendly with her seems to allow "slips" in her grading. Personally, the subject of grammar is fascinating... Her lecturing, not. In addition, I love her classy, fashionable style.

I absolutely regret the day I enrolled in English 320 taught by Professor Hu! Her teaching style is ridiculous. Even when attending her office hours and seeking help from her "recommneded" tutor, I could not pass this course with at least a C.
