Professor Swanson is the best. I loved her class. There are only 2 major assignments which are a duo scene and a monologue, they're very easy just practice! This class is an easy A, totally recommend you take her class.

Bev is amazing. This has to be the best class I've ever taken at SJSU. It is so much fun and and a great way to practice one's public speaking in a fun way. There is very little homework and three presentations. My advice is to find your piece early and PRACTICE. If you ever get a chance to take any of her classes, please do.

Very friendly, honest, supportive of students new to acting. Has an awesome personality with admirable sass & is revered in the department. She is very clear with her expectations & due dates. Very little homework. Just need to attend class, her events, memorize and perform a duo scene, & a 2 minute monologue. Have fun with it. Would re-take 10/10

This was by far my favorite GE course! The course contains two big projects(a duo scenes and a monologue) and a few homework assignments (one pager long). We played a lot of ice breakers and got to know everyone in the class. She provided a lot of positive feed back after your performance. She's very supportive even if you're nervous to act. I

One of the funnest class I ever took. We start class off by having a relax and relaxation session where we just lay down then stretch. There are two big assignments which are the duo scene and monologue. Extra credit for attending acting performances at the student theatre. You pick your own monologue and duo scene so pick what you enjoy.

This class was pretty intimidating and quite frankly, a bit tough for me since I have no background in theater whatsoever. The icebreakers in the beginning of class really helped me clear and prepare my mind for classperformances. Be ready to stand in front of class for oral interpretation and storytelling!

The class was intimidating at first but once we did ice breakers and everyone became more familiar with each other, it turned out to be really fun! Do not be afraid to email Bev and the advanced students as they will give you great feedback. Showing up to class is also a plus! Very fun story telling class! I would definitely recommend taking it! :)

Fun class. The performances can be nerve racking if you do not like public speaking but they do get easier after the icebreaker and the story telling assignment. Bev Swanson is great and supportive. Just an icebreaker and 3 performances and that's it. There is a mandatory performance you have to attend at the end of the semester.

She is easy enough I guess. If you have taken an acting class before chances are that teacher was more personable and fun. The class would have been a for sure A except I spent a day in the ER and missed one of her out of class assignments. Lesson to be learned, she cares about that soooooo much more than the acting. Be a seat filler for her.

Easy class! I was afraid of this class before, but she is really nice and an easy grader. As long as you put in the effort to show up to class and turn in the small assignments, you'll get an A. Sometimes she wasn't clear with her instructions.

I've taken her for TA 5 and I liked her so much I took her TA 131. She's really amazing. I've always loved acting but I grew really shy as I got older. Bev makes it easy to feel comfortable and want to have fun in her class. It's easy but that doesn't mean you can slack off your work. Make sure you're ready on performance day and you'll get an A!

Fantastic teacher who obviously loves what she does! Passion and effort is needed for this course. If you are nervous, she helps as best as she can with encouraging you to be more comfortable with your audience. Very understanding of student situations and will care as much as you do. Highly recommend this class! Lots of fun! c:

Lovely lady. reminded me why I love theater so much. Gives you great pointers and gets the shy people out of their shell. All she asks is that you put in effort, show up to class, and turn in assignments on time. her class is worth taking!

Bev is a very experienced theater actress who knows her stuff extremely well. However, sometimes she is a bit too theater-focused, making us worry more about how we move on stage instead of our actual acting. Overall, I liked the class but I didn't become much of a better actor.

If you put in the work, you should be able to pass quite easily. You do some papers, but if you follow the course reader to a "T" you basically get full points. And extra credit, just mention you LOVE her outfit, or that she looks nice today.

Very easy and fun class. You need to go to a couple plays, and buy a course reader. You will perform a scene with a partner, and perform a monologue as your final. This class is really fun if you are interested in acting.

Super nice and chill teacher. The class is pretty easy, but it was fun at the same time. I enjoyed very much presenting stories the way I wanted to, and I loved hearing her feedback. If you have to fulfill an upper division art elective, take this class!
