Professor Whelan is one of the most personable and enjoyable Professors I've ever had the pleasure to from not just at Manhattanville College, but in my life. She understands the intricacies of History, especially in regards to how something that a hundred years ago will have a meaningful impact today. Stay on top of writings an you will succeed!

Comment:

Professor Whelan is wonderful! She is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about history! She is very good with linking the past to current events and uses this skill to spark interesting class discussions. Professor Whelan is very clear about what is on the midterm and final exam. The only cirque I have is that her essay prompts are vague.

Her lectures are hard to follow because she assumes you know as much as she does. And if you're wrong than she has no problem telling you, and sort of making you feel like an idiot. But she does appreciate you getting participating. You can tell she is a sweet lady but I wouldn't necessarily recommend a class with her.

Unbelievably knowledgeable, and I don't know why people think she needs notes to teach, I rarely see her even have them. I personally found her to be one of, if not the, best professors in the department. She's not easy and may have an old school style about her, but you'll learn a ton if you give a damn.

Comment:

Prof.Whelan is one of the most understanding and accomodating professors I have ever had. She is incredibly nice and is so knowledgable she is able to lecture on any subject without notes. She is very fair with grading, and appreciates participation. Some may say her lectures are hard to foIlow, but if you can record the lectures it helps so much.

She does not exactly inspire interest. I never looked forward to her classes. If you have to take a History course, take one of Bowling's. The man is a Manhattanville Legend.

She is one of those professors that people will easily complain about because she has high expectations, not because she is a bad teacher. If you show her that you care, it goes a long way. I think she is kind of old fashioned in the European-teacher way, but I think it is something great to be exposed to. I got A's and didn't read the textbook.

Wheelan knows her stuff, but without her notes, she is at a loss for words. whatever you do, do not take class with her in the afternoon, or especially in the evenings. Not only do her boring lectures put you to sleep, but the night sky doesnt help one bit. If you're going to take a class with her, make sure to bring you laptop, keep your ears open, and be ready to answer a question of the top of your head, and have some good games to play on the laptop...by the way, dont be stupid, mute the volume!

If you didn't attend class and just read the text you would ace. If she doesn't have her notes she cant teach. She doesn't understand the term "positive reinforcement" by any means.

I've had Whelan for a few classes and I think she's great. She knows her stuff and is always accessible after class. She just takes some getting used to, but don't take her for an early class if you aren't a morning person.

She does get students involved in class and does go off topic very easily. She is very unclear with directions and refers students to the textbook rather than clarifying the question herself. If you don't have to take a history clss I would not recommend it.
