Incredibly boring class. Requires attendance because he knows people wouldn't show up. Attendance is 25% of your grade and if you miss 5 or more classes, you will fail. Doesn't give any excused absences, so you better show up to the class discussions no matter what. Requires a 2000+ word paper with a very vague prompt that gives no information.

Lots of reading, but as long as you keep up on it you will do great. Would have been more fun if students would have participated more in discussions (only a few people ever talked in class). Aubrey knows his Austen!

His syllabus is clear, but I didn't feel like I learned anything in class. We read Jane Austen's top novels, wrote an essay, and then watched the movies. Classes were long and he makes you sign up for a presentation day the first day of class. First come, first serve.

Dr Aubrey is a great professor! I really enjoyed his film class and found his lectures to be very insightful. He provided good feedback on papers and of course he had something to say about the films we were watching(negative andor positive)being that the whole point was to help us better understand how to effectively critique international films!

POINTLESS prof, but the subject is great though he is so off topic half the time have to read the textbooks for any knowledge of the class that he expects in all the in class essay. So so prof and class wish took it with another prof might have learned more!

Aubrey is a smart man. But he is an AWFUL professor. I was extremely interested in the subject contact of my class (Myth/Symbol), but he ruined it for me. He spent most of our class time showing us slides of book covers and talking about obscure movies. His lectures are useless and impossible to follow. His class was a COMPLETE WASTE OF MY TIME!

Aubrey can't teach his way out of a box. He is very smart but can't communicate very well. He is also very uncaring, I aksed him a question because I was confused about the syllabus and he said clearly I didn't read it. He is one of the worst professors I have ever had!

He's a really nice man but his lectures were torture sometimes. He really does have so much in his head he has a hard time spitting out what he wants to say. I wish I was as smart. It is, as someone else said, really tough to know what he's going to test you on b/c he deviates so much. If you love lit, you'll love him. If you're iffy, then avoid.

Comment:

Great teacher! He truly cares about whether or not students learn, which seems to be a rare thing these days. I learned a great deal in his class and I would take him again anytime. He is very fair in his grading, is extremely knowledgeable, and loves what he teaches. He does sometimes get distracted, but that's part of his charm.
