Overall, I really like Dr. Carmichael. He's passionate and loves his subject area. If you aren't a fan of reading or writing this probably isn't the class for you but he gives feedback on your book reports/reflections/literature reviews and is genuinely interested in what you have to say.

He's definitely entertaining, but I spent the majority of the semester wondering what he was talking about. He's all over the place, which can be entertaining, but also frustrating. Assignments were VERY unclear & he seemed annoyed when students kept asking questions. Would love to have coffee with him & chat, but no more classes with him.

He is so unclear with assignments. Several assignments were given verbally or via email and not on Blackboard so you never know what he's looking for and he changes his mind constantly. He also loves to talk about completely unrelated things the entire class period. I like short, sweet, and to the point profs and he is not one of them!

The best! Very entertaining and intelligent. You'll learn so much, especially if you do the "optional" work, basically just fun reference scavenger hunts.

Overall, a good guy and a good professor, but overrated. He wastes a lot of class time on his stream-of-consciousness and does not really cover the good online resources available. Make sure that you have a lot of time available for his classes and are focused for active research.

apparently has NOT been on or around a Reference Department in 20 years, does NOT support the idea or use of online, verified reference sources

I would ditto what has been said! I couldn't believe how he can take many facts and bring them together. Truly a course within a course; that is, he makes the material SO interesting you WANT to do well for yourself and for him.Superior Prof!!

I had Dr. C. over 10 years ago and still see him at professional meetings. He makes you work hard but you learn to see the method behind the madness. If you don't, you really don't need to become a librarian, because it is hard work and you have to think.

I had Dr. Carmichael ten years ago and am now a Reference Librarian because of his classes. He made you work hard, but after the class was over you realized how much you learned. Beware: his pathfinder assignments are the stuff of legends!

Very entertaining! Makes a usually dull topic highly interesting. Easily the best professor I have had at this university. If you get the chance take his class just to learn all that he knows!
