Loved this class and him! Lectures are long and can be boring, but if you are already familiar with the Bible, you will do great. South is funny and does well to make class more entertaining. He will answer any and all questions you have in a timely manner. He wants all his students to do well and will work with you if you are struggling.

Comment:

Really nice and funny teacher, but he really packs information on you, nonstop for 2 1/2 hrs. Since there is so much material, the tests are difficult (fill in the blank portions) There are 3 portions (fill in the blank, lists, and an essay). If he had just given quizzes each week, it would have been better. Didn't use NT Textbook, only Bible

You will learn soooo much from him. Don't expect to be preached at because he's a pastor, and he doesn't force his views on you. He's very respectful, kind, and really cares about his students. I wish I had time to take more classes with him. And the only book you need is a Bible!

One of the best professors that I have had at VCU! I would definitely recommend him. His class is no cake walk but, as long as you study for the weekly quizzes you should be fine. Never read the Bible before his class and now I feel like I know so much!

My all time favorite Religious Studies prof, first semester at VCU and i'll never forget his class. Like your funniest uncle-turned-pastor. He is very thorough and know's his Bible well. I learned a lot. Very up-to-date with the historical/archaeological side of the Bible yet doesn't compromise the reality of historical Jesus or his significance.

number one class that screwed up my gpa. he is so not helpful. his test are 50 fill in the blank questions and essay. what kind of professor makes the whole test fill in the blank? -__- if you are not a religious studies major, do not take the class with him. trust me.

Love this teacher. He knows what he is talking about and you can tell that he has taken time to really research and think about what he is going to say. Extremely respectful and more than willing to answer any of your questions. The class itself was easy... no other assignments other than a weekly quiz take directly from the lecture and reading.

Best Professor I've had in my 4 years of college. He's very helpful & does a very good job of explaining things. His tests can be a bit tricky, but do the readings, come to class, & write a practice essay first & you'll do fine. I highly recommend Dr. South to everyone. He's a very nice guy, so if you struggle, talk to him, he'll work with you.

GREAT Professor. Weekly quizzes were about ~70% of the grade, so reading and coming to class is a must. The final was composed solely of old quiz questions. Just do the work and you'll be fine.

Wonderful professor! He's extremely knowledgeable about what he teaches and is very fair with grading. Do the readings, show up to class, and pay attention and you'll do well. You learn a lot from taking his classes and I recommend him to everyone!

GREAT PROFESSOR. He is funny, nice, and his class his easy. Tells you what to study/do, if you do it you get an A. Great Religion Prof. I plan on taking more of his classes, 4 tests 4 reading guides, thats it. Reading guides are surface levee, no interpretation needed, EASY.

very nice teacher. the class is an easy "A" if you actually read the book before class and an easy "B" if you do not read the book. the test is an easy "A" b/c the questions are the same questions from the weekly quizzes. if we were satisfied with our grades, we didnt have to take the final. overall, you learn very interesting facts!

Very interesting class. He gives weekly quizzes over the information you go over in class. I was a bit shocked at first, but it makes you pay close attention. Very nice and knowledgable. Make sure you read every week! Tests come straight from the quizzes.
