This is Dr. Newton's last semester, but he deserves much recognition for his articulate lectures, professionalism, and overall calming presence. I also appreciated his effort to know everyone's names! Its tough! He's one of the best psychology professors at State, and this is where I would normally say everyone should take him before graduating :(

Although he is extremely passionate and knowledgeable, the class is very difficult to grasp. Expect to do a lot of reading! It will be the only real way to learn the subject matter. Lectures did not help me with my understanding, although interesting, the tests are focused on the text and some sprinkled info from the lectures.

Perhaps the most articulate teacher, if not person, I have ever met. Extremely well-spoken and knowledgeable, the material is delivered directly from the text but with numerous personal notes within the lectures. Not an easy class, the 3 tests are tricky and require thorough knowledge of the texts. No other assignments. Some extra credits available

Theres 2 midterms and a final. This is very hard and challenging. You must go to class and read the textbook. You have to really conceptualize the concepts and information. His exams aren't clear cut. The questions on his exams are very tough and the solutions are ambiguous. All his exams are mulitple choice. He grades on curve.

Dr. Newton was a great teacher. I took him Spring of 08. I find his monotone voice to be very calming and professional. The subject is interesting, the material is interesting, but the tests are a little on the difficult side. Show up and do whatever homework you can, however, and you shall receive a decent grade.

Newton does have a monotoned voice but his calming demeanor makes it easy to approach him to discuss issues that you have with the class. My suggestions is to do your homework during class and ask him a bunch of questions to keep yourself going.

I had such a hard time attending this class. Lectures are very dry and straight from the text. The whole class is graded on attendance and 3 tests, so if you dont do well on tests... good luck. Theres a few extra credit oppertunities, but theyre only worth 1 pt each.

Professor Newton is an awesome person. He offers great test curves and extra credit. HOWEVER, during his lectures i could not understand what in the world he was saying. He is so monotone and poorly illustrates the subject. Use the study guide, im only learning that now before the final! Be prepared to teach yourself Social Psychology with Newton

Pretty easy class. Go to class always. its mandatory + he goes over all that needs to be on test. The text book isnt really necessary in my opinion. I never used the text book the whole semester, but i did use the "study guide" that comes with the text book. curved tests.

I really liked this class, but the lectures can be a bit dry...especially because most of it is straight from the book. I tried really hard to get to know Prof. Newton but he never remembered my name. However, he very obviously cares about this subject and he is extremely knowledgeable.

Jamie Newton is the last of the finest professors remaining at SFSU. At the graduate level he is first rate. If you care anything about Psychology... well... he learned under some pretty reputable names, and it shows. And above all, it matters. Not a professor easily understood by an undergraduate, I know I didn't.

Prof. Newton is one of the best lecturers I have had. He is very logical and methodical in his approach to teaching and does a wonderful job of explaining complex material. His tests are multiple choice but they are challenging, so there are no easy A's (although he does grade on a curve).

Dr. Newton's lectures are very organized and meticulous. This can be bad or good depending on how mature you are and how much of an attention span you have. This is a very typical upper-division course. The lectures are very dense, the reading is somewhat difficult, and the tests are fairly difficult. He DOES curve the test grades though, so that c

Haha, I agreed that he lecturs with a monotone voice! His exams are very tricky. He doesn't grade on the curve though. The text book has tonnes of materials, just too much! Lecturers are so so. Newton takes attendance diligently though sign-in (beginning) and activities (end).
