He wants you to succeed. If any guidelines or expectations are unclear to you, ASK FOR HELP. It is not to your benefit to be shy. He might be intimidating as a first impression, but he is a really good guy. A 350 word short essay was due almost every class period - but he does NOT grade them strictly. He wants to make sure you read the text is why

McMahon is one of my favorite professors!! He genuinely cares for his students and his lectures are SO funny. Hes very in depth with his lectures and definitely helps you become a better writer. We only have to write essays as homework. All from incredibly interesting book choices. He will help you succeed if he notices you falling behind, love him

Comment:

The BEST teacher I had this year. All you have to do if write essays and you'll pass. He gives you a couple topics, and you choose which to write about. He is very open minded, and would not mind spending time understanding his students views on certain topics. Often thanks students for showing him different perspectives as well. :)

McMahon is a great professor, just pay attention and try your best on your essays. 3 grammar mistakes on a paper is a letter grade down so have someone read your essay. Besides that, I really enjoyed his class! TAKE HIM YOU WON'T REGRET IT

He's very clear on what you have to write about and how, he even sometimes outlines your essays. He's really good at capturing your attention and making jokes during class. I've learned a lot in his class unlike other english classes. He pushes you to do your absolute best on your essays and is really good at playing devil's advocate ! awesome prof

Great professor, lectures are super engaging and very fun. He is hilarious and goes over the prompts for all of his essays in class and discusses multiple aspects of each stance to ensure that the essay is doable. Pretty strict with grammar, but he will definitely make you a better writer. Submit essays on time and you will pass with no problems!

McMahon is without a doubt, the easiest 1A teacher out there. Get ready to write, as you will have 5 at home essays, and 2 in class essays. He is such an easy grader. Mostly grades grammar over content. Write all the essays and you will pass the class with out question. Take McMahon if you care about ease of class over quality of teaching.

Really like this professor. Took his class in summer 2016. His lectures are very interesting, never boring but taking it in the summer is hard because you will need to write 5 essays that are 5-6 pages. You basically have an essay due every Monday plus other writing done in class. I got an A but I was reading and writing the whole semester.

Don't take him. I've never had to drop a class before, but this guy dropped my paper (first paper of the semester) an entire letter grade because of one typo and a disagreement with my thesis statement. Beware.

This professor has all the traits of the typical California liberal english professor. His classes are genuinely easy, if you choose to express liberal thoughts. He doesn't clearly care about the content as long as your paper follows the progressive's agenda with great grammar. Avoid if you have conservative views on America's society.

Professor McMahon was awesome! So much so that I'm taking him again in the Spring for Eng 1C. I wasn't sure where I would stand having not written an essay in literally years, but he streamlined the process for me and his input was priceless. He's funny, listens to his students, and makes an effort to engage the entire class. 10/10 recommend

Professor McMahon is a hilarious and smart teacher. You'all always leave class with a chuckle and some new knowledge. The coursework is very hard though. You'll have a total of 5 essays along with 2 in class essays. He does offer a lot of tips on his blog though and he writes out the outlines for the essays. Make sure to go to his office hours too!

Prof. McMahon is HILARIOUS. His lectures are thought-provoking and inspiring. Do the work and you will pass. There were 5 essays and 2 in class essay exams. If you manage your time well, you will pass this class easily. He gives great feedback and cares about your success. I will be taking him again for Eng1C. Highly recommend!
