Extremely passive aggressive and makes you feel stupid when asking questions. Spent hours studying and doing the homework (exactly what he said you needed to to do to succeed) but did not receive positive results. Do not take unless you are an exceptional test taker.

Jim is the funniest professor I ever had. In spite of that, he also explains the material in a clear and simple way (and tells some funny stories along the way). Tests are easy if you go through the homework many times, if you do that, you shouldnt be surprised by any of the questions on the exams.

Professor Smith is the funniest professor I've ever had. He makes coming to class fun and explains everything in such a clear and understandable way. Although attendance isn't mandatory, you really do need to come to class in order to pass because the class grades are based on the tests. He is amazing, take him!!

I love smith!! Accounting is a hard course in itself so no matter who you take you WILL have to work unless you are a natural accountant. Smith's lectures help give you a broad idea of the chapter and lays out examples of the material. THIS IS NOT ENOUGH TO HELP YOU DO WELL!!! YOU MUST ALSO DO THE HOMEWORK TO UNDERSTAND MATERIAL AND DO WELL ON TEST

Three test and final. Other than that, some easy online quizzes and some filler points. The tests are hard and 1/3 class gets an A, 1/3 gets a B, 1/3 gets a C. I am very competitive, so I was not willing to help my friends out in this course, unlike most courses where I would be. He is very funny, but his humor takes away from learning concepts.

Smith is so fun, which makes the class much more enjoyable. Accounting is hard! But Smith makes it fair and spices class time up. That being said, of course you will have to work outside of class to do well. (As expected - it's college people, come on.) I'd recommend him, you'd enjoy him a lot.

Don't let these reviews fool you! Yes, he's a 'cool dude' and yea you wanna 'grab a beer with him'; thats the problem! he goofs around with the class and relies on you to do all of the study. all he does in class is do problems and doesn't explain material, its entirely up to the student to learn. and no, im not saying this cause i failed the class

Great professor and very clear expectations. Grading is curved at 1/3 getting As, 1/3 getting Bs and 1/3 getting Cs. As long as you study the blackboard questions and do practice questions from the textbook, you'll do fine. Highly recommend for anyone who doesn't necessarily love accounting but needs it as a pre req.

Coolest teacher I've ever had. Want to be friends with the guy so bad. Class is also graded on a very generous curve (33% A's/33% B's/33% C's) amongst all of his sections. Absolutely must take Jim, he's the man.

Smith made showing up to class worthwhile and enjoyable, and taught the material in an understandable and simple way. He goes over examples in class that are very similar to the tests. There are 3 exams and a final. The homework isn't graded, but you should do them because they look a lot like the tests. I would definitely recommend him.

I hated accounting before this class, but definitely changed opinions after Dr. Smiths class. He is a super great professor and his tests are exactly on what you learn in class. Willing to help you out whenever you need and is HILARIOUS. You will be laughing throughout the entire class, he is great.

Second time taking Smith and his class is still my favorite one. His lectures are funny and you get a cheat sheet on the tests. Also, he posts the chapter summaries online so don't bother buying the textbook. Do the work and you can easily get a good grade.

Jim is my favorite teacher at USD by far. He's hilarious and his course is VERY fair. He understands it can be a difficult course, but his excel docs made it much easier (notes and practice questions with answers). His online quizzes gave answers at the end, very helpful. Spent 0 time on class, crammed 1.5 days before every test, got an A on all 4.

Excellent professor, with a good sense of humor. Grades on a curve: Top 13 of both sections combined gets an A, middle 13 a B, bottom 13 a C. Expensive textbook is unnecessary, so long as you print, read and use the handouts and Excel files provided on Blackboard. Allows a cheat sheet for all the tests, so make sure you take good notes.

Grading is ranked and the bulk is tests. This professor makes a dry subject like tax pretty enjoyable. He moves through the material at a very quick pace so bring a print-out of the lecture summary to class. Do the quizzes on Blackboard to study for the tests.
