As a whole it was an interesting class. A little more on older Japan - samurai and the like would have been nice. Nice guy and he really went out of his way to help me with the paper. Made a big difference going to talk to him and he made time, so I'd recommend this course.

Overall a pretty good class. The biggest problem was the absurd number of international students with poor English. A good course for those interested in Japan, but less so for the average students.

Comment:

Doesn't seem to have a good grasp on many of the areas covered. Uses student presentations as a way to get around actually having to teach the subject matter. Is not very consise in lecture style, but has a lot of passion about the subject. Hindered a lot by the abundance of non-english students who can't understand english!

I loved this course - it was eye-opening, intellectual, and pretty funny at times. I'd highly recommend it if you're interested in learning about Japan. I liked the fact there was a fair amount of discussion in class and some interesting speakers.

I have enjoyed this class so far. I find the material interesting and there is a good variety. As a marker, he has been fair, and provides meaningful feedback. The assignments are quite wide open which I enjoyed because I could write on something that interested me. I would recommend this course.
