Good ol Dr. G! What a great guy. Im so grateful I had him all 4 semesters of Music Theory. Its not an easy class, but he is able to explain things in so many different ways so you can figure out methods which work for you. His online videos are a serious gift and hes always approachable for questions. Patient, understanding, and super talented!

Everyone loves Prof. Gilman! He is funny, engaging in lecture, never makes a student feel stupid for asking a question, and is very approachable. Although his homework and quizzes can be tough, he never gives has you do concepts he hasn't covered in class. Build a study group in class! Gives study guides that are the exact same format as exams.

Probably the best prof. in the field regarding Jazz Piano. I loved the layout of the course. I was able to learn the piano assignments at home on my piano and turn them in via email through video submissions. It is entirely self-paced, but that does not mean you should miss the lectures. That was the best part. He also happens to be a great guy.

Best professor I've ever had. Exceedingly helpful and absolutely brilliant. Lectures are directly related to the homework so if you show up and pay attention you will be able to manage the assignments. Grading is very straightforward and you never have to guess about where you stand. The most approachable professor of all time and an amazing class.

I can't believe Dr. G has not been rated. He is the absolute best professor of all and truly wants his students to excel. His teaching style is relaxed but focused. Never judgmental, he tunes into what each student needs. Would take every class he teaches if possible.

Dr. Gilman is friendly and very knowledgeable on the subject of music theory. He is without a doubt my favorite instructor at ARC! Dr.Gilman is extraordinarily well prepared,so do your best for him. This isn't a class where we grow a goatee, sip absinthe and wax poetic about jazz.He knows his stuff upside down,and has prepared video lectures that are quite clear.He simplifies jazz theory, but does not present it as fluff. Work as hard as Joe does,and it might pay off for you.
