Tate's method of teaching is unlike others because his understanding of what brings a person to community college is deep and wide. You will learn the sociological material through the text and writings, but expect the lectures to teach you something about yourself. You'll get out of it what you put in. If you're afraid of yourself, don't take it.

Tons of work! Lectures are interesting and lively! There is a lot of work and reading. The best part is that every opinion is valued even if it is contrast with his. You can still earn an "A" even if he doesn't agree with you. Discussion boards are all out battles between students but then no one holds a grudge. His sidekick Denise is awesome too!

I had Dr. Tate for two classes this semester and loved them. However, if you want to sleep I would never recommend taking more than one at a time. Both classes taught me alot about the subject and all of the work related to what we were learning. His classes are alot of work and alot of reading but def worth it in the end! Great Teacher!!

The work was fairly easy, but you pretty much just learn it all on your own because the mandatory lectures have absolutely nothing to do with anything you're learning about. He would just rant on and on about random stuff. I could've used that time to do something productive. The class should just be online b/c that's where all the work is done.

I'm concurrently taking Professor Tate's online class and overall I'm pretty satisfied. He's very helpful when you ask for it and he is prompt with responding to emails and posting grades. There is a lot of assignments, but each one is worth while because they're interesting and you actually learn something. I recommend Professor Tate!

He was really helpful as long as you were interested, I think that i would take another course with him. I had alot of fun and he taught me alot about myself and others around me. I guess you just have to let what he says marinate.

Online class was good. Many assignments but you can work ahead to your advantage and stagger some of the work. I would recommend Professor Tate, again, I think. However I have heard he's bland in person.

I have a BS from a major university and took this class on-line as a prereq before I head back to college to change careers. Overall, I enjoyed it. I had zero interest before the class, but his assignments were interesting. Very helpful and fast to respond to students. Writing intensive course; his exams were fair.

Professor Tate's class was one of the most worthless i have ever taken. After coming from a 4 year university to Germanna, Tate's rambling lectures that never had anything to do with the subject matter were extremely annoying. Although there is a fair amount of work to be done, it is mostly "busy work" and the mandatory lectures were pointless.

Ok as someone who has attended and graduated from a real university(UVA) I have to say that this class is why university students cannot take community collge classes seriously. All he does is ramble and his lectures are mostly just him complaining about things. However this is a really easy class just don't expect to learn much.

This teacher really helps his students to reevaluate the world around them. His classes typically come down to him explaining the world and actually making sense. Very charasmatic, very funny, with lots of great stories.

Tate is a killer awsome teacher, the work is hard but its worth it. i only wish id passed his class, but if your a slacker hes not the teacher for you, but if your intreaged by what he teaches youll love the class.

Tate rocks my world. He is so interesting and funny, and he knows alot about everything... hes a real archaeologist too... like indiana jones... so great. Take his courses!!! I hope he doesnt retire so I can have him again... grading is fair. Homework really isnt too bad... just a couple of reports... he is so nice too!
