I took this class as one of my first college classes. He can get off topic on some stuff and doesntexplain things clearly but its easy just to ask in his office or right after class. He made me a better writer and i got an A so im not tripping. All i gotta sa s know your coma rules, and do the daily assignments. Wasnt that hard.

I took this class in the spring and ended up having to drop it because it was one of 5 classes i was taking and i couldn't handle all the reading required for this class on top of everything else. he wasn't very helpful i was confused majority of the time in his class . would not recommend this class unless you love comma rules

Mr. Heinbockel is a great professor. He focuses more on college writing than on reading, but I think there is nothing he can do to improve your reading skills. The class requires tons of reading and writing (I almost felt back in Middle School), but you will definitely learn a lot taking his class. I wouldn't recommend Mr. Heinbockel if you're lazy

Horrible class! Horrible lesson plan! I felt like I was in a kindergarden class with the material we were learning. Also, this teacher is rude and makes everyone feel bad for asking questions. I would not recommend taking this class to anyone.

Comment:

Heinbockel is a funny guy and makes class enjoyable but other than that, I wouldn't recommend taking his class. He gets off topic very often, usually getting caught up in random stories in his life that somehow is related to the work being done in class. He's also very unclear when it comes to explaining homework and essay topics.

Heinbockel is a funny guy. He mostly focuses on comma rules and misspelled words throughout the semester. There is tons of reading every night (35+ pages) and on top of that he gives you extra assignments as if this was the only class we have. He is also rather unspecific with his instructions. I wouldn't recommend him if you have 3+ classes.

Professor Heinbockel is a great guy and has a terrific sense of humor. Just show up and do the required assignments and then you will pass the course. How dare anyone criticize someone with a better education and years of work experience!

This guy should not be teaching. Heinbockel gave me a failing grade on a paper that he had lost. Turns out the grade was from someone elses paper. He doesnt remember homework he assigns to class. Half the class time he talks about comma rules and the other half is gibberish. Dont take this class.

I recently had Heinbockel as my ENG 100 professor. He knows what he's talking about and I respect him for that. He does help you whenever he can, but you can only get his help when you visit his office. Another thing I respect. However, I had one thing I didn't appreciate. He was disorganized and constanly lost my work. The homework can sometimes seem daunting, but you have 2 days to do it, not impossible. Always do the reading and make sure you fully know the Comma Rules. I give him a 3/5

He has a nice teacher BUT very confusing in assigning assignments to students. All we learn is grammatical skills instead. I do not recommend this teacher. Confuses our work & tests with his MWF class while I had his T-TH class. I do well in English(I had a B on my 1st in class essay)but due to his extreme unclarity, I had difficulty in this class.

I admit that on the first day I desperately considered dropping but am glad I didn't since he only initially used intimidation to scare the slackers. He has confusing prompts and schedules but gladly clarifies if you ask. He gives quizzes every class, so as long as you read the assignment, you could easily get a B. He stresses comma rules.

I received an A in his class. He is easy but required a ton of work. He gives assignments, as if we were only taking his class. If you have enough time to read 50 pages, work on an essay, do tons of worksheets, watch a movie.. then take him. This is a time consuming class.

Just had to comment in defense of this guy-- those who complain are quitters and slackers who don't do the reading, can't speak English and constantly seek to place the blame on others. John was a good teacher who had the bad luck to have bad students too often. I'm now at Stanford and I thank him for helping me polish my skills.
