My favorite class and professor I have had at SUNY Oswego. Just going to his class brightened my day. He pushed you to be the best you could be with your speaking and gave great advice. He is an extremely educated man and you can hear that when he speaks and with his feedback. The speeches were very open for you to decide. 2 tests from text info.

Smith is awesome. He will give you a speech outline and as long as you follow that you will do fine on them. Exams can be difficult if you don't study at all, but a little studying will get you a decent grade. His class was a class I looked forward to going to everyday and I hate going to class usually... he's funny and an all around good dude

Comment:

Prof. Smith can be frustrating at times, he's not always clear on his expectations until it's too late, but he is very funny and makes some good points. Good luck if you have opposing views though, he's not very open to hearing differing opinions. He does, however, know how to make you into a better speaker and we did have fun as a class.

Smith is not a professor for everyone. However, he really helps you challenege yourself and explore your talents. His assignments ARE difficult, but not impossible. He's reasonable with things, even though he may throw a fit at the time, he works with students for their needs. If you're willing to work, he's great.

Don't take this class if you want to do well! Considers a C to be a perfectly good grade & almost impossible to get better than that. Midterm is 40% of grade and is very difficult. Gives unclear directions for papers and expects way too much. Very nice man, good story teller. Gets very distracted in lecture & doesn't use blackboard for notes

Very sweet old man personality wise, but one of the worst professors I have ever had. When someone makes it that hard for people to do well, no one is going to want to try their best. For some reason, although students in my class begged and pleaded with him, he doesn't seem to recognize how archaic and unreasonable his teaching style is. BEWARE

Worst professor I've ever had, it's not a hard class but here I am not passing because all he does is ramble on during lectures. He talks about nothing and then expects us to ace his test. DO NOT TAKE HIM

Dr. Smith will crack you up and loves what he does. This course is easy as long as you do the work, which is not difficult. Take notes. The hardest part was the multiple choice midterm, but it is a small percentage of your grade. The paper is a cake walk because you basically write the whole thing as the semester and put it all together at the end.

While Smith is obviously a very smart guy, I could not stand his class. He is extremely pretentious and loves to name drop his actor son. Only five grades all semester and the assignments are so unclear. Goes on tangents and rants all the time and doesn't know how to work his computer. I would not recommend.

His political communication class is not what I expected, but more.At first, I wasn't sure if I should express my political views openly but, to no avail he was welcoming to any and all discussions about the topics.He loves people that engage and pick his brain.I absolutely love this professor and would take another class with him in a heartbeat.

Creates a very engaging class atmosphere, and is a corny, funny professor who should be cloned and made to teach across all subjects. Experienced and very well educated, you can learn a lot from Dr. Smith about argumentation. Debates are fun and as long as you follow his directions on the 2 papers you'll do fine.
