One of if not the smartest English professor on campus. He grades his papers very hard but as he is helpful and he makes class very interesting. If you want to learn take him! If you want an easy grade...don't take him but if you want pushed...sign up!

Dr. Wilcox is a brilliant man, but therein lies part of the problem. I had difficulty understanding the totality of his explanations during lecture. He's a nice man and lectures are sometimes very interesting, but he asks a lot of you. If you take this class with him, be prepared to think critically!

Prof. Wilcox's class is tough. You have to make sure you read the materials for class - however, if you are prepared, the class promises some interesting discussion. Johnnie is so educated and so incredibly intelligent. Sometimes he was over my head - but he makes sure you understand. Two term papers and one final.

Comment:
Dr. Wilcox is very knowledgeable in the inherently nebulous realm of theory, but he fell short on successfully infusing any passion into his lectures to make the class even remotely enjoyable. Then again, maybe theory is simply devoid of life. Open-note midterm and final exams were helpful, but that differed a lot of pressure onto our term paper.

Chose very interesting books for us to read. He likes dicussion and leads most of his lectures by looking at specific passages. You then discuss the passage as a class. Only assigned 2 papers and a final. Emphasis on you creating your own thesis on what you're interested in. Won't look over paper/allow to revise...but still a good class. B +

He's a good guy. Nice and helpful and all that. But he is so incredibly intelligent that everything he said went over my head. But I did alright on his essays. It wasn't that hard, just normal English work. Nothing to worry about.

Comment:
Prof Wilcox is almost intimidating because he is so clean cut, well spoken, and educated. I could see the material in this class being hard for some people but Johnny will help you if you need it. The class isnt too bad if you go. There is a lot of discussion and a couple of essays.

The class is not bad and he is a good professor, but he is really unprepared. He reads the books along with the students, which makes it difficult for students to ask questions about the book.

Very intelligent professor, but oftentimes shot right over the heads of the students. Heavy work load, but interesting. If you're up for a challenge, take his courses. (His finals are cake, which definitely off-sets the grade you have up to that point.)
