He's terrific ... knows music theroy...knows how to explain it..and..cares that students understand and learn ... If you go to class and do the assignments you will do well...if you come late or miss class you will quickly fall behind ... this is not fluff course ...take effort to learn the work but he makes it as easy as possible to learn the work

I don't doubt his knowledge about music theory but I have to question his ability to teach a summer session course. He assumes too much and DOES NOT COMMIT TO WRITING DOWN STEPS, which makes him a bit on the lazy side. Counting rhythms are taught using handouts WITHOUT STEPS to guide you. It's like learning hieroglyphics! Should tutor more often.

Great Professor! I got an A in the class because i did the work. attendance is mandatory so is participation. He is very helpfull and i strongly recomend him. His class was fun and he answers any questions you may have.Anyone who says his class is bad is probably because they didnt show up or even try.

Professor Finkelman is a very helpful teacher! The class is easy, but it require works because there are 6-7 quizes and one final. If you do the assignments and attend the classed, you should do fine!!!...I got an A which i think i deserve it!!! Take him!!!Highly recommended^_^~

Comment:

This professor was very clear in the syllabus what he expects out of his students. Which to some students is alot. Homework is due from the textbook every class.He gives one week notice for all quizes. Tells you exactly what you need to know. Quizes are an easier version of what the homeworks are. Very good teacher! Not an easy class for non-major.

Not a bad professor... but if you don't do his HW's that are assigned from the textbook, you're gonna fall behind quick. Also, attendance is a must! I missed a few classes and that is how I got a D. He is pretty easy if you keep up with him and his class drags a bit the second half of the semester. You get what you deserve. Ask questions!

The work is very technical. This class is based on music theory, hw is given almost in every class, about 8 quiz you need to pass and the final, attendance is crucial, if you want to take the class for an easy grade dont take this one, it requires alot of time, time, time, and patience, personally its not worth it, unless u major in the subject

he s like a statue. he doesnt show emotion and no mimics. i failed in this clas but if u wanna pass just go to class on time and listen to him. 8 quizes u have. they are easy just study and do the homeworks (u have to attend this class and do the homeworks. they will be graded)you will pass. i failed because i deserved. but i will not lie.

i agree with what everyone else said about prof. finkelman, hes great, easy and very halpful. dont get frustrated if he goes too slow, hes wants to make sure everyone gets the material. hes looking to give everyone an A, unlike some professors

Very easy class, able to make up HWs, quizes are easy and short. Very helpful and very patient w/ students, very respectful. It's a boring class because it goes very slow and because he takes time to help the slower students catch up

Very good. Very clear. You know what he expects. He teaches you everything -- the material is interesting. There is no way anyone should EVER fail his class -- you won't have an easier requirement class while you're at Hunter. TAKE HIM!
