Dr. Julia Rochtchina is the best prof I have come across. Started and ended my Russian courses with her. I can easily say she is the most comprehensive, caring and genuine Russian teacher. Great technique, provides relatable and engaging content, and overall made my undergrad experience worthwhile. The best experience.

Julia, is a fantastic prof, she knows the linguistics of the Russian language so well, and makes learning a new language fun and engaging. She does expect you to put in real work and effort into learning the language - sometimes at speeds that can be challenging. Definitely would want to take a class with her again!

Comment:

Julia is an excellent professor. You can go in to taking SLST 101 with merely a passing interest in the Russian language, but I guarantee that her teaching will make you want to continue taking Russian throughout your university career. Russian is difficult, but Julia makes it simple - everything seems intuitive and makes sense right away.

Comment:

Took SLST 100 with julia as an easy elective and it was a piece of cake. Make sure you go to your classes and take notes, only two hours of revision needed before each midterm. For the final project of SLST100, I wrote an essay over night the day it was due and received 97%, spend a day studying for the final and make sure to use flash cards! easy!

Very nice women and good professor. Lectures were interesting, though found it wasn't always clear what would be on the tests making it hard to study. Posts all her slides online, however does group work occasionally for participation marks. Preferred her for the language courses.

Dr. Rochtchina is an amazing professor. You will learn Russian really quickly, but the information never feels overwhelming. She has a very good idea of how well everyone is understanding everything, and is sure never to move on from something until everyone gets it. There is a fair bit of homework, but it is very helpful for learning the language.

Julia made learning Russian super easy; we learned the alphabet in less than two weeks with no flashcards. She is clear, kind, and supportive, and will never belittle you if you struggle. Her textbook is both affordable and enjoyable and works great with the class itself.

Learning Russian is tricky, but Julia will make you want to get to class. She's incredibly patient, very enthusiastic, and encourages you every step of the way. Be prepared for some group/partner work, but there were no oral tests, and the written tests we had were simple enough - but you do have to study and practice!

She is the most positive prof I've ever had. Without fail, ever class she came with a giant smile! So amazing! She's so helpful, and is willing to give you a hand or provide resources that will help at any time you ask. So approachable! Just a straight 10/10

Julia is one of the best profs I've had. Every class is an exciting different lecture, with both individual and group work, with help from her along the way. She made learning Russian very easy, and she's an easier marker, while always giving feedback, and being helpful. The course was fairly easy, but it was much easier with her help.

Amazing prof. If you actually want to learn the Russian language take this class. It helps to come to class as we learn something new each time. She will call on students so be prepared to answer (however this style of teaching is what has prepared me the most). Her tests are easy if you actually have a love for the language and a will to learn.

Yulia is the sweetest lady, and the best teacher. I've taken several language classes, and no one comes close to her easy-going attitude, her preparedness, and her ability to sense where the class is at (and give us a break if she sees we're having a tough time!). Don't hesitate to take this class :)

Well organized and easy to follow. Approachable and very helpful. Doesnt follow the textbook exactly, just picks out the important material. Shows youtube videos and songs in class to give some context. You will be called on in class, so prepare the homework.
