A kind and lovely professor, though the readings were 30 pgs they became doable after the first few. $25 to pay for the book printing, two long papers, and a short presentation

Cuny removed attendance system, but she still deduct points for missing class, without even giving us the 2-3 day exceptions most classes do. Grades on a British grading scale, which is a good thing, unless you want A+ (which is 100%, instead of 97-100) Reading response every class, and no late papers. 2 paper + Oral presentation.

Wish I could have taken more classes w her. You need to work Hard, but can get the HW done in class if you're savvy. Got an A. Uses own manuscript (will be a boon to the field), only charges printing cost. She is one of the best profs I had at Hunter, and is genuinely a kind person. She does humanitarian work in Africa during her semesters off.

She sells her own unfinished textbook- pretty self serving. She structures the course after the textbook and has students edit it- very self serving. However, she is one of the most knowledgeable professors at Hunter. You must do the readings and go to class to get a good grade. Don't take her if you want an easy A, take her if you want to learn

She talks so lowly you can't even hear her. Her assignments are useless. Even when she explains them to you several times, you still can't grasp what she wants you to do. I had an awful experience with this prof.

Kate Parry is a hands-on researcher and deeply knowledgeable about her field. She also uses her own text-book for her class, but only asks students to pay for the copying costs, making it one of the cheapest and most intimate accompanying texts possible. A must have professor if you are going into linguistics, English history or teaching

Professor Parry is an extremely engaging lecturer, and just an interesting human - she radiates intelligence, and managed to make the history of the english language a fascinating topic. She's a super tough grader though - I worked my ass off for a B+. But it's worth it if you want your class to be good.

It is OK for a professor to use their own book in class. OK to USE the book; not structure the entire class around it! And to use your students to give you free daily critiques on your UNFINISHED MANUSCRIPT makes the class feel used and completely unimportant. I took this class because I was intrigued, now I feel used and treated like a child!

Do not take her if you are looking for an A .She is a tough grader and never gets satisfied with the student's work. You have to do response papers every class,a Gobbet exercise which she makes it sound easy but actually she will grade it similar to an essay, and two papers, 8-10 pp. The first paper is easy however the second one quite tedious.

Professor Parry clearly explained what will be required from us. This was a writing intensive class, and we had to write a short response to every reading, plus three papers. The good thing was that she gave a lot of time for each paper, and she gave great comments in response to first drafts. Doing all the work on time, you'll get a good grade NP.

A LOT of homework and writing, but it should be expected for a 300-level Eng class. Professor was very helpful, subject was boring, but she tried to make it as interesting as possible. Three papers, reading responses and one oral presentation - all very straight forward. First paper was the hardest, but gets easier and more interesting in the end.

I thought Professor Parry was excellent. She was always willing to help with any problems and tried to make the class as interesting as possible. There was a lot of reading, but it's a 300-level English class! It's to be expected, and as an English major, you should expect this!

She's a tough grader. She explicitly told me it's rare for her to give A's. Even though she won't admit it, she plays favorites. It's a lot of reading that's extremely boring. She wrote her own textbook for the class. -_____- I got a B+ so as long as you show up and put effort into her assignments, you should do pretty well.

Comment:
Hers is a good class, and one does learn and enjoy the material. Yet, this isn't a non-degree course for most people, and she's an unfair grader. She picks a couple of favorites, and gives everyone else a B or a B+. The latter isn't a "bad" grade, but, if you've earned an A, you should be given an A; she'll give you a B then make excuses.
