She has huge homework and which is not useful, She is not suitable for being a Japanese college teacher. She should be an elementary school teacher. This is my worst memory in so many class I take. If you take it, drop it.

do not take her class if you never learned Japanese before. Her class is definitely not for those who don't know Japanese at all. Her class is very fast-pacing. weekly quizzes are easy, but tests are extremely difficult. too much Canvas HW. she is so strict, wants her class to be quiet, no chatting in classroom

Yamaguchi Sensei is a fabulous teacher. She has a wonderful knowledge of Japanese and can answer every question she is asked. She provides an wide array of online support materials and gives very relevant homework. Yamaguchi Sensei has a great sense of humor and strives to treat all students equally and with respect!

Comment:

Great Teacher! I came in the class skipping 121 and it was pretty easy for me to catch up! You do have to actually study though and participation is the best possible way to learn in her class. I got by studying only 20 minutes every WEEK, but my grade would've been a solid 4.0 if I would've studied everyday. Also very understanding about grading.

Took this class fall quarter. Yamaguchi is a nice person and her lectures and powerpoints are pretty clear. There is daily homework and online quizzes and assignments. After each chapter she offers extra credit. The exams can be difficult, but her in class quizzes are pretty easy. Overall if you want a 4.0 you'll have to work for it.

It is easy to get 4.0 in her class. She is a patient teacher and nice to every student. She gives us a lot of extra credits. And the some of problems on extra credits will appear on the following test. Anyway, you still have to work hard, it's not super easy to learn a new language.

One of the best instructors! Organized, helpful, and nice. Clear and great lecture. She post lecture on canvas. HW is easy, just do it carefully and neatly. Respect students. Lots of partner practice. A lot of extra credit so don't worry about your grade. Study hard, tests are all in her lecture + textbook. Memorize them use flashcard. Recommend!

Comment:

Great teacher, but like some people said I believe you'd have a tough time if you are not a native English speaker. Don't take this as a "fun" or "easy" class; for the sake of your GPA I would advise against taking this along with two other difficult classes. If you have questions, make sure to ask; she is very nice and helpful.

She is really nice and cheerful. Its not really an easy class. You need to really study hard to get a 4.0. There's always an extra credit every test but its not really helpful, you really need to study for every exam. Goodluck! And you dont really need to buy the book, just buy the workbook and packet and you will be fine.

Strict and hard. Lectures are boring. Her spoken English is so bad that, if you are not a native speaker, it will be hard to understand. Also her Japanese is not academically professional. Don't take her class if you want to learn standard Tokyo accent, or get an A without a great effort, or if your cannot understand English spoken by Japanese.

Excellent Professor: Gentle, sensitive, dedicated, and very helpful. High work ethics and perfect character to spend time with while learning. I would strongly recommend her to anyone wanting to learn Japanese even if it takes driving a few more miles to her classroom rather than picking a close by school with a different professor.
